Re: Coilovers
Good writeup, but I'm very curious about something after reading a few how-tos on the G8 forums, along with this thread. Everyone mentions what a nightmare the rear shock/spring assembly is to get out. The problem seems to be gaining clearance in the rear suspension to work the housing out of the up...

Re: Rear spring replacement tips?
IIRC, the torque specs on the strut bolts are a certain torque spec, PLUS an additional angle of wrench turning. Who the fsck thought that torque-to-yield was a good idea?!? There's a fresh place in hell for that guy, right next to the guy who invented the Torx bolt (AND his brother in law who got ...

Re: G8 Diff Question
Yes, it will, but the standard G8 diff is the same 2.92:1 ratio as what you already have. If you wanted a better ratio, you'd need a G8 GXP rear, which is going to be pretty rare. It's a 3.27:1 ratio for automatic cars, or 3.70:1 for manual cars. A newer Camaro diff will also work. They come in 3.27...

I will also take some photos of the progress. I plan to throw in the 2013 Caprice shocks and 2014 SS springs on mine tomorrow.

Re: Help! Can't spin tires!
Silversled, Thanks for the heads up. I came to the same conclusion after pouring over my last couple of datalogs searching for the mysterious spark retard, and noticing that PE spark advance wasn't coming in until 5000rpm. I updated that in my latest tune, but haven't tested or datalogged it yet. I ...

Re: Help! Can't spin tires!
I just got back from a series of test drives and datalogging in which I tried disabling all of that stuff. It didn't help. On one run, I set the Spark Minimum - TqMgt table to zero degrees, and set Max Torque Loss equal to 0 ft-lbs in the Engine -> Spark -> Advance table. It still wouldn't spin the ...

Re: Rear spring replacement tips?
That's what I was going to suggest. I downloaded the G8 service manual I found off of searching the forums. The only difference I know of possibly is larger front strut to steering knuckle bolts. I'm not certain if the change was between VE and WM, or WM and VF/WN, but there was a change at some poi...

Re: Help! Can't spin tires!
My current thought is that I'm still missing something in the Engine Torque Management Tables. Here's what I'm currently working with: http://i.imgur.com/fDBp9SI.png Basically what I've tried so far: a) I raised the values in these tables to 487ft-lbs for all rpms. I can't tell that this did anythin...

Re: Help! Can't spin tires!
RE not being able to completely turn off traction control on the 2011- on mine with "traction off" it will fry the tires if I want to. The stability system only seems to intervien if the car is sliding sideways. (No drifting allowed!!) So I'm thinking it's something in your tune set too c...

Re: Help! Can't spin tires!
If it's a 2011, there's not much you can do. You cannot completely turn off the traction control on '11s. If it's any other year, hold the traction control button for a minimum of 5 seconds. That supposedly disables the TC completely. I've been doing a lot of experimentation in the code on mine the ...
