How to determine what head unit ( missing ) would work the sirens ( still in place)?

This section is for discussion of OEM police package options and police equipment for the Caprice (both OEM and after-market), as well as after-market upfitting perfomed on our cars.

How to determine what head unit ( missing ) would work the sirens ( still in place)?

Post by VintageIron41 » Fri Dec 20, 2019 8:10 am

Hello and thanks for taking time to read this.

My 2014 PPV came to me with the police equipment removed on the interior and roof. While installing the new camshaft and working under the car, I noticed there are two sirens still mounted under/behind the front bumper, they are intact with wiring to a connector. I live in an area where there are geese, my 2012 Charger had the siren and air horn working with the head unit when I got it, and I found geese do not like the air horn and will get out of the road for it, I miss that..how could I determine what head unit would connect to the sirens I have?

Can't help you but this line made me chuckle. I am envisioning a bunch crossing the road and then honking frantically and scattering when you hit the horn.

Can you pull a model or serial number off the sirens? If you want a 3rd I'll have one that I am going to look to pull before listing the car for sale

Others may know more but I think they are kind of universal in nature. Meaning they are just noise generators and the sirens will play what ever is pumped into them.

I have a unit that is for my 2012 Impala. I believe It is a Whelen Alpha siren unit for two sirens. I can check this weekend when I am back home.

Yes, these geese will ignore a car horn, or the siren blip, but blast them with the air horn, they flap their wings, deposit on the road, then skeedaddle lol.

Dave,
It is a Whelen Alpha SL, it is a remote style unit. I haven't hooked it up yet. But has a lot of options. I got just for the air horn feature. It will drive two speakers. Maybe download the install instructions to see if it is what you could use...
