Proper spaces for center equipment mounting platform - 2014

Post by paul54 »

So I am still discovering how things work (day 2!).

I plan to mount a console in the car, and I know that some slide into the "keyhole slots" on the equipment mounting platform. I was looking at mine and there are no gaps that would allow anything to slide into the keyholes. I am thinking there are spacers missing.

You can see there are spacers UNDER the parking mechanism cover plate, but no spacers between that plate and the equipment plate. See photos.

Does anyone know, or have a diagram? I spent a while on the GM parts site, and can't find a breakout of this particular part.

That's going to be an upfitter's part. I'd poke around sites for Setina or Whelan or Jotto Desk for information.

THink they put it back together wrong, What if yo removed the spacers from under ths solid piece, would it sit flush on the paring brake mechanism? Then use those spacers on top of the solid piece. You got 4 of them?

No, the black plate won't sit flush, I tried that! I think a couple of spacers more will solve the problem. I will poke around and try it.

Although some of the Havis consoles I have looked at don't use that plate at all, they have you remove it and attach directly to the tranny tunnel. In which case, it becomes a non issue. I just am finicky and want to see what it is supposed to be.

I found the answer on one of the Havis console installation sheets. There are in fact supposed to be 4 spacers, of the same size as the ones BELOW the parking brake cover. This provides the needed gap to be able to use the slots. I know its obvious, but just in case anyone was curious!

Mine had spacers under both ends, but the gap between the plates are only big enough for the bolts that lock inplace to tighten the console. They are a pain in the ass to line up, I finally drilled a 2 inch hole in both plates to run my wiring.

Thanks, I went and bought some steel bushings that were almost the exact size. Can you tell me did you also have spacers UNDER the parking brake cover plate in the rear? And if you get a chance, let me know how thick the spacers are in your PPV. I just guestimated to allow room for the bolts of my Havis console to slide in.
