Donor Carrier Assembly / Take off Tires and Wheels

Post by 600 HOCADDY »

I poked around because I would think this has been covered, but could not find the knowledge,, So I will have to ask,, I did find some info on ratio opinion, the consensus seems to be 3.27 ILO 3.43. So if Im looking for a carrier, whats the playing field of donor vehicles, what should I know here? Am I looking for a Cameo 2011 to 2015 with RPO code GW6. I found a LKQ unit for $300, are all GW6 posi? Did any of the caprice cars come with other then the 2.92, should I check RPO code, or they all have 2.92

Also, wheels,,, whats the realm of donor vehicles, cts-v, cameo? any pitfalls to watch for here,,, sensors? do the caprice sensors have to be put in a cameo wheel, for example

Thanks, in advance for the feedback, and sorry if I'm asking redundant stuff, i did look (within this forum and tech category, which seems like the appropriate place, for this info) to see if these topics were already posted.

When we did my ratio change, I used the complete pumpkin assembly from a 2010 Camaro SS, we went from the small to the large unit. Both the old and the new were LSD. There's a thread detailing the changeover process in the drivetrain section. Unfortunately most of the pics that went with the thread were rendered garbage after we had a botched board changeover a year and 1/2 ago. There's are a number of options as far as ratios, 3.27 and 3.45 being two of the most common if I remember correctly. I prefer the 3.45, you lose a little top end but it dramatically livens up the car.

Remember, no royal purple or other such fluid if you open up the rear. ONLY use the specified GM carbon mod fluid with the friction modifier. Anything else and you'll end up with a noisy rear.

I would be cautious when just looking for just the GW6 code. Usually there will be a G80 code also. it is worth asking. There is a white vinyl tag on top of one of the attaching arms. Ask for a picture. The GW6 is available either as open or with the G80 option. Most posi's are going for $700-1,100 range. It is an easy swap (3.27 or 3.45) and has the extra benefit of a lot of grins.
And, yes, this is a good group of guys that are willing to help and not get into a "urinary ballistics" competition. Most of us seem to have willingness to share and promote the forum, car and hobby.

Welcome to the group!

I think you get LSD 3.27 in either the auto SS Camaro or the V6 manual. The auto V6 is an open rear. Look for LSD on the tag.
