Did they do a new belt at the time of replacement? Does the wobble eat it up?elc32955 wrote:Mine was at least that bad if not worse. I wouldn't AutoX or track it like that, but routine stop-n-go shouldn't be a problem for a few days I would think. Final decision is yours though

I'm wanting to say No and No, but I'm going by memory over 3 years back. Not completely sure to either....

Mine was pretty bad, and who knows for how long and it didn't eat the belt. I replaced the belt anyway.

UPDATE: Just got my car back from the dealer and it couldn't have went smoother. They looked at it on Wednesday, made an appointment for this morning, back to me by lunch. Covered by the drivetrain warranty.
The service guy said he had the old unit in his hand and said the 2 parts of the balancer moved by hand.

WIN for the good guys Did they give you a reason why they him-hawed around with it in the first place? It should have been warranty all the way, no brainer there.

Re: Harmonic Balancer Wobble
I started hearing crickets.
My wobble is worse than in Yargnits's video, and I have no idea how long I've had this wobble. The chirping started about a month ago.
I am well out of warranty.
Should I bother trying to get a dealer to fix it?
If not, what's the best replacement part?
I see p/n 12635649 on Amazon for $130:

Re: Harmonic Balancer Wobble
I think the aftermarket is the better alternative for these. Although it is twice the price, make up for it by not replacing every few years. Just make sure and get the factory size and not an under drive unit.

Re: Harmonic Balancer Wobble
Why not an underdrive unit? Unless you spend a LOT of time strictly at idle, I can't see an issue with one. We have one on our 96 SS, and while the lights do dim a bit at idle, we suffer no other problems, and it helps free up some HP. We bought it like that, and have probably put 50K miles of DD use on it with absolutely no issues.

Re: Harmonic Balancer Wobble
I agree with an aftermarket underdrive pully. If I had been out of warrentee I was going see if SLP had a unit that would fit.

I found this thread on the G8 board:
http://www.g8board.com/forums/5-v8-engi ... stall.html
ATI Super Damper (stock size) #917246 @ $445
This chart gives the available options:
http://www.atiracing.com/products/dampe ... amserp.htm
The 10% under size with AC looks to be #917278 @ $452
I haven't found any part numbers to help acquire the smaller belts needed for the under size pulleys.
I've heard blemished ones show up on eBay, from time to time, for much less...
