L77 Upgrades

Post by VintageIron41 »

Hello and thanks for taking time to read this.

New member with an interest in the Holden's in general and the Caprice PPV specifically. Current plan is to buy a higher miles car and swap a fresher LS2/L77. Am aware of DOD/AFM potential issues. PCM and BCM along with engine harness from new engine would be part of the plan, so question(s) would be, having the above, is the swap a plug and play? And, with engine out, what modifications are tried and true? Not looking to build a beast, a daily driver, to increase HP and torque in the mild range while reducing likelihood of lifter and cam failure.

Do years of manufacture create issues? Example 2012 vehicle, 2017 engine?

Senior citizen here who enjoys the smiles torque makes.

Thank you!

the LS2 is not easily swapable , they are gen3 and 3.5 , the caprice is gen 4

also the L77 has better heads , you can easily swap a LS3 in , just need to get the pcm retuned

also LS2 uses a cathedral port head , the L76/77 is a rectangular port head

alot of people like to call our motors LS2's , but there is way to many differences , and the LS2 is a 400hp motor and 10.9 compression , ours are 362hp and 10.4 compression
