Oversized Oil filter

Hey guys, just wanted to mention that anyone who wants some extra oil capacity, or just more filtration that this is an option for you.

I've been using KN filters for years including fuel, air, and oil filters.

I was amazed how small the stock filter is on these cars. Curious, I did some research and double checked the production specs of KNs filters.

There is an oversized filter available for our car with the exact same thread, pressure specifications, outside diameter, etc.

The stock performance filter from KN for our cars is HP-1017.

The upgraded filter is HP-2011.
The filter without the 1 inch nut is PS-2011.

I've been using KN HP-2011 on our car for over 2000 miles with no issues. The Amsoil I put in is still very gold as well.

One thing I noticed, with the added capacity, while doing my oil change I topped off the filter before threading it on, and even in doing so filling with exactly 8 quarts left me halfway in the dipstick. It took almost an additional 1/2 qt to fill completely.

So if you're looking for the most oil you can put in, with better filtration, look no further.

I also use the oversized model for my Silverado instead of the small one, HP-2006 which is the same filter for Envoy and Trailblazers with the 7qt capacity V6.

My only concern would be if it hangs lower than it should. I have had one crushed before on another vehicle doing this and it made a mess and could have cooked an engine. FYI.

It doesn't stick out past the rest of the oil pan, I made sure of that. I'm sure you could find filters with the same specifications that are longer yet, but this one looks like it's perfect as it sits just below the pan.

I use this size filter on our SSV Tahoe but appeared too long on the caprice for my comfort.

There's an AC equivalent to that, but I don't have my part number list handy. Since lead was the biggest oil contaminate, and lead has been removed from consumer-grade gasoline for some time, you're good to go with the shorter filter. I think, though, without the 'nut' at the bottom of the filter, the long filter still does not hang lower than the pan.

I believe it’s the ac Delco PF-63. People don’t like the ones that end in E.

Was under the car today figuring out my shifter situation so decided to snap some pics. I just don’t understand how the long filter wouldn’t hang past the oil filter. The stock size is nearly there.

With 8 quarts in the system, the need for a larger capacity filter is probably less a concern than using a quality filter.
