Bench racing L77 stop end swap

Post by Skyhighsami »

I've never been a big fan of rectangular port heads on 4" bore shortblock. The car I won or Ebay has a faulty lifter and will need disassembled to fix and new parts and upgrades will go back in. I was thinking on which would be faster CNC 243 heads milled for 12.1 CR, BTR Stage 3 pr 4 LS1/LS2 cam, ported Fast 102, OTR intake, 1 7/8" headers catless 3", 3000-3400 stall and 3.45 5th Gen diff 28"-30" M&H Racemasters. LS3 top end would be the BTR Stage 3 or 4 with worked heads also milled for 12.1 CR, same exhaust, Fast 102, same converter, gears and tires both on E85. Both should make around 475whp but make power differently.

Why would you not want to use the rectangular port heads? With that compression and cam, you're going to have to fly cut.

Because we built a motor for a Trailblazer SS that was GMPP heads on a LS2 with a 231/236 cam and it wasn't nearly as strong as when the LS2 came out and it was replaced with a LSX376 B8 with less compression the truck ran better. Everything was the same as before except the piston size and the valves weren't being shrouded by the smaller bore.
