Speed Engineering headers, high flow cats, X muffler and Camaro mid-pipe

Post by Badnacho »

After reading through several threads and asking a few questions, I put together a budget full exhaust, I know I'm not the first, but I thought a video may help people down the road. I tried to keep it functional and keep the noise down.

Parts for the build (I can provide links if you wish):
Speed Engineering 5th gen headers
GM MLS header gaskets
Speed Engineering GTO oxygen sensor extensions x2
Flowmaster high flow 3" cats
3" to 2.5" reducers
3" band clamps x4
Oxygen bungs x2
5th gen ZLI mid-pipe (free from a 5th gen FB page)
Dynomax ultra flo x muffler dual in/out 2.5"
Total cost roughly $700

I plan on doing a DOD and cam soon, so if you like the content hit the subscribe button.

Nice work! Just for my own info, how long did it take you from start to finish?

Are you also getting it dyno tuned? I just did it and it's worth it! In fact, if you don't you might destroy your cats as I found out it was running very rich with the stock tune and headers.

.

I would say roughly 8 hours. The removal wasn't bad, it was right at 1.5 hours (I did that part solo). The install is what took time since there was a lot of off and on (the second person helped a lot) I did get hung up on the steering shaft install. I had a hard time getting it back on the rack and thought it was due to the headers. After spreading the shaft coupler it slipped right on though.

I do plan on having it tuned, but after I do my DOD and cam. This is my secondary car so it doesn't get driven much; I'm hoping it will be okay for the time being. I know from my past cars that on stock maps they run like 8:1 air fuel ratio, so I could def see the cats getting clogged. What kind of power were you seeing at the wheels and on what fuel?

Looks like nice work, I hate how low the speed engineering headers hang down on mine. They scrape a lot. I’m also lowered quite a bit.

Thank you! They most certainly do sit low, that was one of the first things I noticed. I have driven over speed humps and small speed bump and I haven't scraped yet (fingers crossed). I live in the city, so I won't be lowering my car. Hopefully that helps minimize the scraping.
