VCM OTR CAI Warning!!!

Post by GTObert »

If anyone is running a VCM intake you need to check it immediately! There is an updated design that is supposed to fix an issue that I just discovered I have. The metal filter retainer inside the housing does not hold the filter in place well enough and it allows debris to bypass the filter. I just started getting lean codes and when I went to check the MAF, I found what is in the picture below. I called Improved Racing right away and they are shipping me a "new improved" design for free. No word yet on if VCM will be replacing my now ruined MAF.

Next week I'm going to an LS7 MAF. You can have my old one that works fine if you like.

I appreciate the generous offer, but I have already arranged for a replacement. What exactly is the advantage of the LS7 MAF?

My hope is that anyone who is not aware of this issue will be informed as VCM has no intention of telling people there is a possibility of this happening with their old design.

The LS7 MAF is a cartridge style and is less restrictive. After driving around under load the silicone intake elbow was collapsing under vacuum at WOT. Prior to supercharging I only measured 4 kpa on the maf so it wasn't an issue NA. I'll get an after maf hp # and see what it's worth.

Dave, I'm thinking about going with the VCM and will make sure it's the newest version. Can you suggest a brand/part number for the LS7 MAF you're using and any other parts it may require?
2011 9C1 - well used by Georgia PD with 125K miles and growing
Camaro 3.27 LSD
Kooks 1-7/8 stainless long tube headers
Magnaflow 3" exhaust system (no cats, sounds great)
160HP dry nitrous shot
VCM OTR CAI

Chevy SS springs
Drag raced as often as possible

2015 9C1 - never in service. Purchased January 2017 with 700 miles

2011 9C3 - never in service, purchased used in CA April 2016. Sold 3/4/17 with 111K miles.
