id maybe think of trying the 5th gen camaro headers , since they also have a engine oil cooler

ive been trying to get pacesetter to build the SS and caprice headers , and no luck and i work there

Camaro oil cooler is in a different location by a few inches. It sits farther forward on the motor and is less in the way of the exhaust. It's possible that it might work but also might not :x

space from the oil pan out is where im thinking , not the front to back

Is it just me or does that now look like you have a oil heater? Is that giant brick designed as the heat sink like to get rid of heat in the oil? Looks like its surrounded by the header tubes now.

It's not cooled by air- the cooler has engine coolant circulated through it.

heat shield is better , but yes it would help some

what about wrapping the oil cooler parts themselves if thats no a heat sink might help insulate it from becoming one. I've always heard header wrap isn't the best for their long term survival....

that defeats the purpose , the cooler while liquid to liquid , it also uses the air to remove some heat
