Oil Separator/Catch Can

Post by Navy Lifer »

Seems to be a popular thing to do for G8 owners....LS engines have no PCV valve, I understand.

GM part number revision for the 2013 Performance Catalog: Camaro 1LE PVC System PN 12653073. The original number published, PN 23102311, is for the 1LE Tack Pack package.

As an example:

Yes--however it is not plug-n-play for PPV. A piping modification is required, and I've just not gotten around to trying to do the fit-up.

On my list....

Curious as to the disclaimer, essentially, about cold-weather ops. The standard venting system isn't significantly different than this kit, so I'm curious why that becomes an issue.

I am running a Roto Fab CAI. Would probably have to fabricate something anyways.

And,
Are they maybe worried about condensation?

If condensation is the concern, I'm just not sure how the separator design would create any greater problem than the existing stock (no separator) plumbing.

I've done a test fit, and the height of the separator above the oil fill port brings it fairly close to the underside of the hood. May be a non-issue, and I'll be checking this more closely as I get to the final fit check.

Bob,

Assume your installation uses an aftermarket version--like this(?): http://www.uprproducts.com/pontiac-bill ... g8-08.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Can you describe or provide a link to a picture that shows how it's mounted?

Uh, no, you know I'm computer challenged. I purchased one from some vendor on the G8 board, Billet Prototypes, I think. Installation is pretty simple, fairly detailed instructions, a monkey should be able to install it.

What lurks behind that "aw shucks" veneer, Bob? Me thinks you're a bit more computer-literate than you let on. But that's OK--just hit the road and come up to Concord NC next month to show everyone what you got!!!

Will the Catch Can installation get rid of that "burned oil" odor that followed my first oil change last week at 500 miles? When stopped at idle, smells like "blow-by" from old 1960's car. Engine was initially overfilled at dealer - dropped oil level to just below "FULL" on dipstick and still have the odor at idle.

Sounds like this is a common problem from looking at Corvette and Camaro SS Forums. GM must have a "fix" for this - but they are not offering any solutions.

Thanks - great site for new Caprices.
