G8 MagnaFlow Performance Exhaust 16883 - installed w/video

Post by K9Vic »

I bought these used on Craigslist for less than 1/2 of new from a G8 owner that changed to a complete exhaust system. I drove a few hundred miles to get them, but shipping would have been about the same as fuel. Plus I was able to see how the Caprice is on long road trips and did very well. They are a direct fit on the axle back and hook into the mounts just fine, however they are too short by about 4-5 inches. I installed them and will take them to the muffler shop so my mechanic can see what they look like and know how far to extend the tips.

Car sounds more like a 2014 Chevy SS now, but still does not have the same sound. So any advise on what I should remove before the axle that will still sound good but not get any bad drone.

Just for reference, here's a comparison to a 08 G8 GT with straight pipes... After listening to yours, the straight pipes, and the SLP Loudmouth in comparison with the 2014 SS, I'd say the SS falls somewhere between the Loudmouth and the Magnaflow.

Other question..... drone... do you have AFM still turned on or is it programmed off?

This is an interesting picture, since it shows what was assumed to be an Australia (Holden)-only center filler panel (the black part between the exhaust tips). Unless it was changed, the production PPV part is smooth, where the part in the picture contains a small "grill" detail.

Don't recall the PN, so I haven't looked it up to see if it may (now?) actually be available here. I can only guess that someone changed it, or if it CAME that way when the car was purchased, the part was substituted in production--perhaps the inventory of the PPV "smoothie" version was expended and some later 2011 PPV's got the Holden Caprice part shown in the picture.

As pointed out elsewhere, the panel in question was 2011 only--2012 & later was/is one piece.

What is the build date or last 6 numbers of the VIN of your PPV?

My build date is July 2011. Tom saw that when we where at the burger place as well. I looked at a video on Youtube from Saabkyle04 for a 2011 9C3 and had the smooth one. So who knows but the one I have look better in my opinion.

Gary, your piece is for accommodating a trailer hitch... good for a hitch monted bike rack...

Tom, that is what I though with that cut out in the middle.

My muffler shop extended the tips today by 5" and looks good. I had to take the car there so he could get the angles right as doing it without being on the car would have been impossible to get right.

Aligning the tip, passenger side is not set yet and can see the difference.

How much did they charge to extend them?

Thanks,
Tom
