got the CAI installed. installation was fairly easy, only problem i ran into was the bolt that is at the bottom of the box didnt align well and i had to twist the box to make go in. I still need to get some kind of putty to put on top of the molding to see how well it seals, but from a visual when i shut the hood, it seems to seal without the gap you would see with the G8 intake.

Well, I'll add my $0.02. Since the factory air filter box already has a fresh air duct, or 'loose parts chute to the nether regions of the front end', as I like to call it, I thought I'd just try a pipe to eliminate the factory baffle/air duct to the TB. I found an AEM unit that worked on the G8, and it wasn't too terribly expensive, so I thought I'd give it a try. While I would have preferred a black ABS tube to match the rest of the stuff under that hood, all they listed for AEM was either polished, or chrome. I ordered the polished one, figuring it would be a bit lighter, and I wouldn't have to worry about cutting my fingers on chipped chrome plating, like I've done in the past.

The install wasn't too difficult. It seems that the rubber coupler for the TB was a bit small for the TB, as it took a fair amount of force to get it on. Because it has a bit of a kink to it, I had to pull it off, rotate it, and reinstall it a couple of times before getting it in a position I liked. The air box end was actually a bit big, but seemed to clamp into place nicely.

The position of the crankcase breather line must be a bit different between the G8 and Caprice, as the hose they provided for that was about 3" too short. After a trip to the parts house, I was in business, and completed the install. We went from this:

It looks kind of pimpy, and I'll probably add some insulation wrap from DEI, like I did my ram air tube on our 95 SS, mainly to keep the hot air from the radiator off of it. That will come as soon as my Pegasus order arrives. :)

The test drive revealed a little more engine noise. It would probably be better with a K&N filter, which I may do later, also, but it's fine for now. It has a nice growl at mid-range, but little other notable noise. We'll see how it does in 4-cyl. mode when I get an opportunity to get it out on the road. My little road test at least revealed the car was fine with the new parts. Updates as they occur.

All-in-all, not a bad $150. I really like being able to see more of the engine. Not super happy with the polished look, but it'll do for now.

Edit: Update. I added some insulation wrap to the tube, to 1. cover that shiny polished pipe, and 2. reduce the heat transfer from the radiator and underhood head soak. I did this to the ram air tube on our 95 SS, and it really helped reduce the IATs, so it should help here, too, at least a bit. Anyway, here it is as it looks now:

When I first got my 2011 my first mod was to get the SLP lifetime air filter to replace the stock one. Later I went with the RotoFab CIA (it's my car they have on their website). I still have the SLP and the cleaning kit in my garage. I prefer the look of the RotoFab unit.

Thats a very nice looking setup should be what is factory on a car like the SS, I can see why the caprice uses the standard sealed box on side for things like water crossing but who would do that in the POV.

Looks nice. I'd opt to not use the 'batwings', but that's just me. Any seat-of-the-pants difference, or better, recorded performance difference?

Yeah I can feel a little more low end torque, which is great, but the biggest difference is the sound! I had heard people say it was louder but thats a complete understatement, when i go WOT it sounds like a BEAST. Just how an LS should sound IMHO.

Im hitting the dyno after I get exhaust done, although i wont have any base numbers to compare it to :(

And i thought about not using the extra panels but my thought process is the cleaner the install the less it may hurt the resale value. Hopefully it looks "stock" or clean enough to maybe even fool a smog tech :D

Throttle response on ours seems a bit quicker, and the engine sound is MUCH better. It's not bad in 4-cyl mode, either.
