New converter track times, sorta!

Post by leadfart »

I took the PPV out to shake down the new converter and tire combo. The good, I was one of the first out, and track was hooking, sixty-1.66. Yea, buddy! 8-) The bad, it was flaring the WOT upshifts, had not done this on the street. Should have been an 11.40 or so pass. It went 11.86 @ 116.

It shifted fine on the return road, so I was going to pack up and go home. Got a text from my tuner, he was out there, swapping the plugs on his Chevy SS, and was going to make some passes. Did I mention there were over 150 cars out there, hurry up and wait!

So, I drove home, shifted fine, twenty minute drive, :D , got the trusty laptop, and while he was in the lanes, I made a speedo correction that might have been causing the issue, it wasn't.

So, in latter part of the evening, he made wholesale tranny changes, and we logged it. Converter still slipping. Came back and did some more changes. I let him drive and log the last pass. He blew the tires off, he was surprised at how much power, and how the converter hits. , flashes around 3300. He pedaled it, and the 1-2, 2-3 and 3-4 logged fine.

We just couldn't dead hook it at that point, to be sure.

However, during all of this, he said that there is a good possibility that it is about a half quart low on tranny fluid, he had that same issue on his car, when he put a stall in it. Just a little low, will manifest that issue WOT, at the track. And you just can't check or add fluid very easily at the track. :P

So, if you have read all this shit, I have an awesome re-tune on the tranny, but the flares were probably caused by low fluid, from the converter swap.

Garner, we need to put her on your lift for a little tap off, when your not chasing perps!!
