Our Caprice has about 85K on the clock, and I had a look when I had the cats off, since they were right there. They looked okay, and since I was needing to get the car back together, I didn't order a set of G8 mounts while I was there. I'm sure I'll regret that move. Maybe when I install the exhaust?

So as a painfully late update on this, I did take the car into the dealer to look at the engine mount. They said that brown residue was a slight leak coming from a coolant line that attaches to the oil cooler. They replaced the cooler line under warranty but I'm skeptical that the dried brown residue I saw was dried coolant as I never saw a coolant leak, nor is my coolant brown. I stay up on my stuff constantly and have never had to add coolant to the car for the 4 years I've owned it. Still no noticeable symptoms from the engine mounts.

Also, as a retraction on something I said earlier about Tahoe PPV engine mounts vs Caprice mounts, now that my agency's Caprices are in their 3-4 year of service, we are starting to see driver side engine mount failures. Has affected about 20-30 percent of our cars. I was a bit surprised given the lazy factory throttle programming of the 2014 up cars but in all fairness they do get driven very hard and typically weigh about 4900-5100 lbs including driver and gear/equipment.

Garner, can't speak much to the Caprice motor mount issue, other than to say I'll probably pick up a pair of the polyurethane mounts for the G8/SS for my spares panel.... just in case.

Not to wander too far off subject, we just replaced the driver's side mount on our Tahoe. What a PITA! Anyway, there's a better mount out there, and it's mentioned in a TSB, but not everyone knows about it. It's the mount for the Hummer. If you're having to have your Tahoes spend time in the shop for this issue, mention the TSB. I can get some of that info for you if you need it, but fleet guys are saying it solves their motor mount issues in the Tahoe PPV/SSV when used.

Thanks for the info Gene. We only have a small number of GMT 900 Tahoes left and they wont be far off from auction so I'm not too worried about it. However I would be interested to know if the newer k2XX 2015 Tahoe PPV/2014 up Silverado's are having the same motor mount issues and if they are, is there an upgrade for them too? Is it the same mount as the GMT 900s?

It looks like the new body uses different mounts. They have a different P/N, anyway, and a different part number for left and right side. Those P/Ns are different from the H3 unit, too.

On the 2015+ Tahoe forum, I'm not seeing the multiple postings about issues with the motormounts, so maybe the issue isn't as bad on the nnnbs (new-new-new body style)?
