Future Diff swap to 3.27

Post by Fudgehog »

Hey the information on here from other members swaps is great. Planning on doing this mid August over a weekend.

I'm looking for
Hints/tips
Parts I should order (besides outer axle seal - possibly center support and of course bushing upgrades)
Recommendation for email tune
Is a tunnel brace worth the cost?
Anything else that could aide me

All is appreciated thanks guys.

You have a factory tunnel brace, I bought the BMR one and while it looks impressive I could feel no difference in the cars rigidity.

Thanks that's what I was looking for. I'll invest in a different suspension part then.

how much 'slop' do you have in the pinion? I mean how much can you turn it before you feel it starts spinning the ring gear? Then, how much before you feel it roll the ring gear back the other way?

You going to do a WIP in the member builds area?

I don't even know if I have any slop to be honest. I thought it would be a good idea to change the center support and I'm doing the diff upgrade for obvious reasons. Haven't had time to jack it up and test it out I probably won't until mid August weekend.

I could take some pictures along the way, especially if it helps out other members.

I was talking about the 3.27 diff. Thanks.

I don't think it can hurt at all. We have some good WIPs for diff swaps on this forum, but it seems like just about every car is a bit different, so 'living vicariously' through your WIP can't be a bad thing.

I can let you know how the gears feel when I get it delivered lol. Off like a 50,000 mile or so Camaro. Definitely can't wait to see it but judging by the pictures it looks good.

Cool. I ask because I have a 3.27 that came out of a low-mile Camaro, but spent some time under a low-mile G8. I haven't compared the lash in the 3.27 with that on the factory diff under the car now, but it seems a bit excessive to me. I'll compare when (if) I ever get time to get the new exhaust under the car.

I'll still probably get the 3.27 gone through, just because it's out of the car. It does turn smoothly, it just seems a bit loose.

Just got it delivered. Between moving the pinion left and right there's no play for me.
