What parts are needed to add the dipstick? Do you know the partnumber or equivalent vehicle to search?

Here is an old thread:
I believe it is from Jannetty Racing viewtopic.php?f=17&t=1985. But, I really struggled getting the JR trans dipstick installed. Took some heat and modification...
Also, there was mention of the GB guys using a truck dipstick.

Re: trans and diff fluid change
so after I went to a reputable trans shop to have filter and fluid changed it had a few weird shifts on the way home. For one, slowing into a turn and then taking off again it couldn't t select the correct gear, like it rev d a little like a higher gear then dropped down. Also had a few surges when back up an inclined driveway and took foot off gas.
Shop owner was nice but it an hour each way. He said he s sure he got the level correct.
Anyone ever hear of air in the line? What s the correction if thats it?
Should have let it be!!! He said the pan and filter and fluid ws in very good condition. 40K miles.
When I started car at shop the idle even sounded like it searched at little, I thought it was just my imagination.

Re: trans and diff fluid change
sounds like the level is low , also id quit driving it tell you get it checked
Re: trans and diff fluid change
HELP!!! So the guess is low on fluid, I agree. D to R is slow to engage too. Started surging big time today while backing out of garage to put on ramps. So with the low fluid idea I wanted to get a local garage to check the level for me. I went under and see the plug in the center of the trans pan is just a plug with no center screw.??? So how do we check level? Also I can t find a fill plug???

Do a quick search for deep pan modification here. It outlines the level check procedure, and you will see that that plug is not a drain plug but a level check plug. The fill port has a plug up next by the case of the trans, fill through there or a dipstick if added. Good luck.

UPDATE/. Drove to my local shop today to have fluid level checked as car is not shifting, surges , slow to engage etc etc...
Had the shop put the trans temp on a scan tool around 120 F and pull level plug. Nothing came out until just about 4 quarts!
Took it for a ride and is shifting perfect again. Called original shop to complain and he agreed to pay the $128 bill to have the level re checked and 4 quarts of fluid.
So the question is how is it possible I drove over 60 miles 4 quarts low? Do you think I ll be alright as far as any damage?
FYI, Car still has power train warranty as I m only at 40K.
What a mess trying to do the right thing. BTW, The first shop was advertised as a transmission specialist, LOL.

glad you got it taken care of now
time will tell if there was any damage or not , hopefully it comes up before your warranty is up
