CV Axle - Diff gasket leak

Post by Fudgehog »

Right rear diff to CV Axle is leaking, I'm thinking number 7 and possibly #13 the retainer ring on the diagram.

Anyone have any experience on how big of a PITA it is? I know at least wheel and caliper, or do you have to take the whole knuckle off?

Appreciate any guidance.

I seem to remember one of the members here doing a WIP on a diff replacement, and I think he just pulled the halfshafts out of the pumpkin. That would make me think you can just do the same to R&R the inboard axle seal.

But I have never done either.

Here is the link from my 3.45 Diff swap. Maybe the pictures will help...

Those pictures help, it doesn't look too bad. Maybe I should just buy a diff if the gaskets will involve almost all of that lol.

It seems the only logical direction to go! Don't forget the polyurethane mounting bushings and the solid mounts for the rear cradle while you're under there.

Exactly what I was thinking! Whiteline bushings and toe rods. Amazing how cheap some of the diffs are too.
