Heard a noise today in the rear, removed the pads and rotor to find a broken shoe. Where is the best place to pick up a set ? Looks like a pain to do as it is all behind the axle. yikes!!!
Thoughts or suggestions welcome.
thanks

Huh. I know they are pretty weak in the trucks did not think we had that problem.

Looked in the service manual, has two entries. One does not mention the hub and bearing and the other says to remove it. Not sure if a misprint or if there are actually 2 styles. One says HSV and Non HSV so maybe one is referring to the big brake package??

thanks for the info.....hope to hell they can be installed w/o taking out the axel. Checked a bunch of local parts stores and most carry them.

Funny... The shoes look a LOT like the ones for a 94-96 B-body. They built billions of those, yet the emergency brake shoes were stupid expensive (>$100, IIRC), yet you can get the ones for the 2011-2017 Caprice for about $75. :-/

Thanks for the info Steve. Did a quick look and as far as I can see you have to pull the hub and bearing assembly to get access to the shoes. I don't see how it would be possible any other way. Will repost with some pics when I get to that point. Found a set of shoes (Wagner) through Rock Auto. Local prices were really high.

Update..........Can be done without removing the wheel/hub assembly. I don't know how anyone could make such a lame parking brake assembly..
