Techna-Fit Braided Stainless brake hoses

Brake install still in progress, and a full update of the work being done will come later.

This is the quickest way to get the information posted--I realize some will possibly have issues viewing a post from another Forum. If that's the case, I hope consideration might be given to signing up for the SS Forum--it's free, and the commonality between the 2 vehicle platforms carries some potential value for PPV owners to use the SS Forum as a resource. For those put off by that, rest assured that I will eventually post photos here.

I could fix it, but just understand the photos are basically in reverse of intended order.

If you've read the text on my posts in SS Forum, most of the info is updated there.

Techna-Fit is making these hoses, and by Monday (Aug 21) I expect to have an actual PN for the kit. It is "universal" as far as fitting both PPV and SS brakes. The single difference is that the PPV stock front caliper uses a different banjo bolt thread--as it is an iron caliper, the threads are M10x1.5, and all aluminum calipers (PBR & Brembo) are M10x1.0.

If you order a Techna-Fit kit, you will need to specify whether you're installing the hoses on a PPV with stock brakes, or if you are doing a Brembo conversion--unless you plan to re-use the stock front banjo bolts. It appears that the 4-hose kit is going to cost about $100, depending on shipping. If you're thinking of doing a Brembo conversion, just order the kit for an SS.

Brackets: options are to either take the front PPV hose and bracket, cut off the hose, and remove the swedged-in fitting, OR to purchase a pair of replacement hoses from the aftermarket (see Rock Auto) and use the brackets that come with those (new rubber) hoses. I used Centric 150.62183 and 150.62184 (listed for 2012-2017 PPV & 2014-2017 SS), or you can use Centric 150.62177 and 150.62178 (listed for 2011 PPV). Prices are between $15 & $20 each. The brackets for these hoses are held in place by snap rings/C-clips. Brackets all appear to be the same, from my observation, so the source isn't year-critical.

The brackets do require modification, by opening the hole for the hose fitting to 39/64" (0.609")--see more details in recent posts to the SS Forum thread.

During the brake conversion, new SS springs were added, which dropped the car, based on my somewhat un-scientific measuring procedures, 11/16" in front--the rear was converted to Camaro lower control arms, with modified lower mounts, and the drop was greater. I didn't like the appearance and there were tire clearance issues, so the reversible "slug" design of the mount allowed the height to be raised to a level I'm now OK with. Not expecting it, but IF the front was to "settle" any further, it would be a good thing.

I had already removed the front inner splash/debris shields when I did the first pad swap at 15K miles--they just bolt on and can be easily removed. For the rear Brembo conversion, the existing shields must be modified. As the photos posted here show, the rear shields were cut away, using a plasma cutter. The center portion of the plate must remain to keep the park brake function.

At the same time, new front struts (2nd design--my car had the original Australian "harsh" valving) and rear shocks were installed, as well as new front strut upper mounts and new front sway bar links (Moog--for no particular reason), just to make sure things that wear out were in good condition--now at 66K miles.

As others have reported, the change to SS springs (and front struts on 2011 cars) is transformative--the car is MUCH more comfortable to spend time in.

I'll update this with a PN list of all the parts that were used. If you have questions, ask away!

The rear sway bar remains to be replaced--I will make a separate thread about that.

front hose brackets

A couple of photos showing new & used brackets, with the hole enlarged for the TF hose fitting, as shown in several previous photos.

These are spoken for, but I'm willing to assist with ready-to-use brackets on an exchange basis, but the mod is really not that difficult.

Thanks for the update. I'll definitely be getting a set. By the quote above, what you mean by 'Brembo' conversion, you mean any of the Brembo brake calipers we commonly use to replace the OEM brakes? That is, the SS/Camaro/CTS-V units? just wanting to make sure, as I do have the CTS-V brakes about ready to go on the car.

How did you open up the hole in the retainer? Dremel? Drill? Hole saw? Thanks.

And can i get the part # for the 1LE rear trailing arms? I didn't know that existed even when i did my rear upgrade i looked at the GM track pack kit

I had not seen the JDP upper control arm bushings. I picked up a pair of aluminum upper control arms (from an SS sedan) and I've already got 23104906 & 23104907 (Camaro) bushings I intend to use with them. The SS UCA bushing fastening method is "different" so I have some things to figure out to make it work. The JDP bushings might be the better deal, but I'm not a big poly fan.

Correct on the caliper compatibility--these hoses will work with all combinations.

As for the bracket mod, I have a buddy with a small home machine shop/business, and he takes care of it. A drill press and proper holding fixture would do, or you could put the bracket in a vise and use a reamer, uni-bit, or the proper size drill bit, if doing it at home.

Yes I installed a pair of the dorman brand which seems to be the same as OEM Z28 parts as well as the 1LE rear control arms which were stock not modified like yours when I did the swap to the SS springs/shocks. definately tightened up my rear "feel" with not any harshness. Car sits down perhaps 1/2" lower than stock. I'd like to try the other bushes if they can be swapped without having any effect on the rear alignment which I believe they can. The uppers I'm not sure i understand the install process as there is some claim that removal of the old ones is a PIA?

Sorry to get this offtrack, perhaps we should cut some of this out and start a new thread on rear susp upgrades?
