2014 PPV front end noise

Post by VintageIron41 »

Hello and thanks for taking time to read this.

Just received my 2014 Caprice ( GovDeals purchase), a quick turn around the block and backing it into the driveway reveals a substantial front suspension noise, obviously it will get checked out over all, but, what might be the most likely cause? 122k miles from South Carolina.

Thank you!

I've had to replace the stabilizer links twice in my car, apparently that's a weak spot....they definitely make noises when bad.

Thank you Sir, those do go away, it will get a thorough going over soon, this is my first PPV, so am looking to learn where the weak spots are.

Thanks again for replying!

Indeed. OEM strut mounts are a bit soft, and tend to settle with time, resulting in a rattle when the suspension moves up and down. I'd usually recommend OEM replacements, but not in this instance. Whiteline is the way to go.

Struts and mounts replaced, noise less pronounced but, still popping, what else might it be?

Depending on the magnitude of the bump you're going over, and the speed at which you take it, you can still get the strut top bushing to compress enough to rise off the body and 'pop' when it drops back down on the upper strut mount.

Failed motor mounts can also cause some rattling or popping noises.
