Rear Rotor Replacement

Post by grittenhou »

Fellow Caprice Enthusiasts...trying to replace rear rotors on 2014 9C1. What is the trick for removing factory rotors? Presume my parking brake shoes are the problem, but how do I access and remove rotors? My web search has gotten me nowhere. Thanks.

Does the rotor move any at all or is rusted to the hub. If it is stuck the the hub, I have good luck by lightly tapping the rotor between the studs with a ball peen. When the tone changes, you know that the hub and rotor have broken free.
If the car is from an area that salts the roads, the drum part of the rotor may have some rust that prevents it from sliding over the shoes. If that is the case, you may have to back off of the parking brake cable adjustment.

if you are replacing them then just put a large hammer to the rotor all around. Mine rusted on good too. Just don t hit the studs and damage them.
