speaking of brakes....here's one for the serious folks

Post by Navy Lifer »

Not sure of the level of appeal, but with one already going to the CTS-V (or Camaro SS) 4-piston Brembo fronts, here's something I ran across that should be direct fit...as long as you have the right wheels!

Pace Performance front 6-piston Brembo kit:

The same kit (with ZL1 Camaro black calipers instead of the yellow Caddy calipers) is nearly $1K more.

22959672 - SS V-8 Camaro to ZL1 Brembo Front Brake Conversion Kit
GM PART # 22959672

List Price: $4,150.00
Price: $2,992.15

I have seen this 6-piston/370 rotor setup actually fit/clear 18" alloy wheels--but only certain ones (will not clear G8 18's). The SS guys, with 19's & 4-piston Brembo calipers stock, are able to fit this brake setup with no issues. Chevy has always stated that 20" wheels are necessary, but since the products are listed for Camaro, there's an assumption that IF you have a V8, it's an SS, which has 20" wheels standard. That said, even the CTS-V (2nd gen) had the same brakes, and used 19" wheels.

There is a cheaper way to do this, using a one-piece "composite" rotor that is the standard part for CTS-V....but it's heavier and not as "cool" looking!

OE one-piece & non-directional: $215 each from Rock Auto (may be pillar-vane rather than straight vane)

OE two-piece & directional: $305 each from Rock Auto (part of kit above)

The Centric "Premium" version of the 370mm "co-cast" rotor is under $81 each, and is shown as a pillar-vane design:

Shopping around on amazon is the way to go as usual....

http://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-177-1145- ... NCS1JKWZWG" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; OEM 2 piece rotors$219

http://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-177-1105- ... NCS1JKWZWG" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; OEM 1 piece rotors $164

http://www.amazon.com/ACDelco-172-2522- ... AXPKH3MM1Z" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Yellow 6 pot calipers $277

Seems like you could come in under $1000 this way for what seems the same stuff?

The GM kits seem to come with the rotors, calipers, pads and hardware, a new set of brake hose? (is this needed?) and some small black piece thats a dust shield or what?>
