255's on stock wheels?

Post by CrashTestDummy »

I'm about to head out this afternoon to replace the tires on the car. Since we already had it on the stands, and the tires on it now are about done, not including the one with the nail in it, we decided we'll replace the tires so the car is safe to drive on wet roads again.

I was thinking of going a bit wider, and am looking at the different sizes available. It looks like a 255/45-18 is just about the same diameter and revs/mile as the oem 235s. Is anyone running this tire on stock steelies? If so, any issues with rubbing? I know it's just about a 1/2" wider, but it would be an expensive mistake if it interfered with anything.

I do have the car on BC coil-overs and it sits a bit lower, but ride height is adjustable if the fenders rub any, I just don't want to be hitting any suspension bits, or parts in the wheelwell. Thanks.

Assuming we're correct about wheel offset at +46mm, there should be no issues.

Stock steelies although the car is a bit lower, but the ride height can be changed. Tires have been ordered.

Nice. Which tires did you end up going with?

BFG G-force Comp 2's. The 255's were ~$10 more per corner than the 235's. They would have to order either size, and get either size in by today, so I just went ahead and got the bigger tires. We do like autocrossing this car some, so the added grip would be nice.

The exhaust is back together with the Solo cats, so we're just waiting for the wheels to be ready to get the car back down on all fours.
