17s for winter tires

Anyone have any luck with 17" wheels for winter tires? I don't have brembos, doubt I'll ever have them so that doesn't matter to me.
I know G8 guys sometimes do 17s, but I seem to recall the PPV caliper is bigger so I'm not sure how much I can rely on what G8 owners have done in that regard. Thanks.
