New Purchase 2012 Caprice PPV

Post by ppauto »

I just bought car. Don't even have it yet. I know already that I want to modify the Exhaust to make it louder. I live in a Tx county with Emissions testing, so, I can't modify anything that would affect that. What can I do to the exhaust system to the rear of the O2 sensors to make it sound better?

Lots of emissions friendly options out there. Anything the G8/SS crowd is doing will also work on these cars, just need a bit extra pipe added in for the increased wheelbase.

Well, actually, you can, sort of. Since the car is OBDII, you'll usually get little more than a test of your lights and then they plug the car into the OBDII scanner to verify there are no codes saved. There IS supposed to be the visual test, where they inspect to verify that all of the emissions controls are on, but that's hit-of-miss. I've seen cars with long-tubes and cat-free exhausts pass as long as the owner removed the cat monitors from the tune. While you should have both sets of cats, they rarely look for that pair hanging off the end of the exhaust manifold, and pass the car if the OBDII check passes.

So long tubes, with a single pair of cats, and a cat back are common mods to late model cars here.

Welcome to the extended family! Was it a new car as in zero miles, private used, fleet used?

This is a solid Black 2012 Caprice PPV with 96K miles. Never had a light bar, no antenna holes, no spotlight. Was reportedly a small town Ky. Police Chief's car. I've bought and driven many Police cars...'93 Caprice, '95 LT1 Caprice, 2000 Impala, 2003 CV, '07 Hemi Charger. When I first saw these, I new I had to have one.
