New Caprice/New Owner...

Post by SmittySS »

As the subject says... I'm the new owner of a "new Caprice."
I have not yet taken possession of it, but I'm pretty excited to. I live in SE Michigan, and currently the car is in Montgomery, AL. I found the car on GovDeals, and the family and I am going to take a mini-vacation south and bring it back with us.
I'm not certain of the condition of course, it could be all dinged up, but lets hope not. I could tell by the pictures they posted that they did a terrible job removing their decals. It's black and white, but it looks like some of the white was coming off the doors from the decal removal.

It's a 2012 9c1 with 79k on the odometer. I don't even know if it's a running driving car at this point. The agency had 5 different Caprices listed at the same time with the same description:
"Vehicle starts and runs with a boost. Vehicle has a fuel module issue and shuts off during operation. Condition unknown, please inspect carefully before bidding."
I'm hoping this description was for one of the other cars they were selling at the time... I have like 1 in 5 odds...

I'll post some of my own pics when I can take them. Until then, thanks for letting me become a member of the forum. I look forward to all the great info I'm sure I'll find on here from the users that have blazed the trail ahead of me.

Welcome!

My car had white vinyl over the doors that came right off and is now nice and all black. Looks like maybe similar with yours.

It towed on the dolly great, I had considered pulling the driveshaft for towing on the dolly, but after using my temp gun on the initial trek from the police warehouse, I didn't see any heat building in the back of the trans.

We stopped to visit my brother in TN and stopped in at a Walmart in Lawrenceburg, TN and saw this in the parking lot... small world.

It will need some TLC, putting some pieces back together and cleaning up.
I was very happy to see that the white on the doors and top is actually vinyl. It's pretty dried up and cracked from the sun, if anyone has any helpful tips or products to aid in it's removal... that would be greatly appreciated!
Also, when I got the car the TMPS was not showing a fault, however, it showed the right front tire as having 50psi while the others were closer to 35-38psi. I set the air pressure per the sticker on the b-pillar, and drove the car and the tire pressures did not correct on the dash. I told it to reset the TPMS... and now I have a fault with no tire pressures registering on the dash. Any ideas what I need to do to correct that?

As for the description listed on GovDeals:
"Vehicle starts and runs with a boost. Vehicle has a fuel module issue and shuts off during operation. Condition unknown, please inspect carefully before bidding."
I have not yet been able to verify that this car quits during operation... I've only had it out for about a 40 min drive so far though.
