Welcome to New Caprice!
Welcome to the NewCaprice.Com forum system. I'm Eric, the system operator. I recently retired after 31 years of government & public safety service in Central Florida, and I have the distinct pleasure of privately owning a 2011 Chevrolet Caprice PPV 9C3. My car was purchased in August, 2012 from Southtowne Chevrolet in Newnan, Georgia at around 9,300 miles. It was the fleet demo car for the dealership, prior to this it went through the GM-only dealer auction in Sarasota, Florida and had been used by General Motors in an unknown application, probably sales related as the vehicle had been upfitted. I have a copy of the original title laminated for car shows, on the orignal title (titled in Florida) it was registered to General Motors.
The vehicle is under factory warranty until 36,000 miles and this limits what I can do as far as mods and upfitting, I have installed a Roto-Fab air intake kit for the Pontiac G8 along with the corresponding front cover plate (also by Roto-Fab), and SLP Powerflo exhaust with tips.
I've always been into police vehicles and performance cars, and for what this package provides I'm very happy so far. Good horsepower combination, it's very responsive, drives well, and barring a few other things we'll discuss in different sections it's not at all uncomfortable. Several defects since original purchase, none critical.
So again, welcome!
Take care
Eric

Re: Welcome to New Caprice!
Eric, thanks for setting this up!
I'm Bill Harper, US Navy retired (thus my screen name). I have a 2011 PPV 9C3, purchased at Jim Ellis Chevrolet in the Atlanta area on Nov 19, 2012.
The car was sold as used, but had only 23 miles on it when I test drove it. Color is Alto Gray--I knew I did not want black....we traded in a 2004 Impala SS (L67 3.8 SC) with 148K miles on it. The PPV was an opportunity situation, even though I wasn't looking for one initially, it was put in front of me by way of a trip to San Antonio for ImpalaFest 2012, where Bob Dannelley and Steve Eckart both had their PPV's. Steve had just purchased his (at Jim Ellis) and it had been shipped to Texas, arriving just days prior to the event. He took me for a short ride, and I knew I was hooked! When I found out that cars were available, right in Atlanta, I began plotting to get one.
Without making this a long missive, I'm dedicated to being something of a SME (subject matter expert) on undercar stuff, especially brakes & suspension--something I've been doing for quite awhile on the Impala SS Forum (for the late B-body & D-body cars). Learning about these cars is going to be a little more challenging, but it's what keeps me motivated.
Collectively, "we" - the current PPV owner group - had been communicating via e-mail. A forum/board format is going to make life a bit easier. So far, we're aware of about 11 owners, now including you!
I can always be reached by e-mail at inov8r@windstream.net
Looking forward to many discussions! Lots of information to post up & share.

Re: Welcome to New Caprice!
Hi Bill!
Welcome! I was active over on the Impala SS forum and NAISSO when I had my 95 Caprice. If you want to see pics of it, go to our main page, click the link for PoliceInterceptor.Com, then go to my former police cars page. There's some pics and nice info about it there. I've made a lot of progress in the last few months on tech info for the PPV's, but the knowledge of the collective far outweighs what I've done I'm sure.
I was growing very frustrated with the inability to source technical information on these cars as well as to gather other Caprice owners in one place, so since I have a very good and accommodating hosting provider (who also provides space for Impala forums!), I started this system up to try to bring the community somewhat together. It's not perfect and it's got a long way to go, but again it's a start.
Just FYI, I'm tweaking some of the front page images and the front door sections, so expect it to act funky for the next few days. Sizing pics correctly on the front page here is a cast-iron b*tch, so it's mostly trial and error until it looks good.
Thanks
Eric

Re: Welcome to New Caprice!
I'm Greg, and I have a Heron White 2011 9C1 bought from Bob Hall Chevy in Washington state. I live in Sacramento. It was used with 1300 miles. I wanted a 9c3, but the dealer misrepresented the ad. All the other PPVs in a 600 mile radius were 9c1s with a spotlight. I wanted one without a spotlight, so I settled for this one. Mine was used by GM as a demo. It had the police equipment installed, but it was removed before putting it up for auction. When I picked it up it had holes in the fake fender vents, blank fogs and the mirror caps. The interior had holes in the trim where the cage was installed. I've since replaced those parts with brand new parts. I did replace the door handles with G8 accessory handles, the mirror caps in chrome finish, G8 engine cover, leather steering wheel, leather shift knob, aluminum brake and accelerator pedals, midnight silver Camaro SS rims. I've yet to get the WM Caprice spoiler painted and installed. I've got Middle East Caprice SS emblems, and the V8 6.0 emblems. I'm still waiting on the chrome Berlina fog light panels, the 2012 Malibu chrome exhaust tips and the GXP lowering springs. I was going to swap the 9C1 console out with the G8 console, but it the wiring is different for the trunk release, the shifter functions, and parking brake cable. It would cost me too much to try to convert it, especially since I've spent so money sourcing the parts just to find out it won't work unless I get a wiring schematic and try to get the correct connections. Maybe in the future, but not right now. I've got more priority items to spend the money on before I tackle that project. I'm hoping to get the Mid East Caprice SS Impala center caps and the trunk lid emblem to replace the bow tie. If I end up getting those items, I will rebadge it as an Impala since historically there isn't a Caprice SS sold in North America. I currently own a 75 Caprice convertible, a 96 impala SS, an 11 Camaro SS, 70 Monte Carlo, a 72 El Camino and a 13 Mustang GT. I grew up with a 77 Caprice Classic, so I have a fondness for rear drive Caprice/Impalas. The next Caprice I plan on getting is an 87 Coupe, but those are extremely hard to find.

Hello, I'm Tom and on the Impala SS forum I am also The Tech. I have a 2011 Alto Gray Caprice PPV 9C3 purchased from Jim Ellis Chevrolet in Atlanta GA on Feb. 7, 2013 and brought home to NC on Feb 16th. Mine had 38 miles on it when I test drove it and 41 miles when I purchased it. In the last month we have put 2000 more miles on the car and loving every minute of it. The car was purchased used but it had never been titled. As soon as I drove the car I knew that this was what I wanted. When I left my son and his 1995 9C1 Caprice in a cloud of dust I knew I had made the right decision. No mods yet, waiting for the warranty to be run a bit further.

Re: Welcome to New Caprice!
My car was upfitted as well. Looks like a Smart Siren of some kind was installed in the trunk, I'm pretty sure a strobe bar was above the windshield or had visor flap lights as the clips for both visors were very loose. The local dealer warrantied those out since it was a minor fix. The upfit wiring was mostly still in the trunk, I've stripped some of it out that went to nowhere. I haven't been able to get the headlight and tail light wig-wags to work, I think I may see if I can con the dealer into diagnosing it since it's an original option to the car, they'd be good for car shows. Also when I was installing my Roto-Fab I found the airbox wouldn't go in correctly, turns out there was a 100-watt siren speaker installed and still there, in the way. I ended up cutting the airbox to fit around the speaker on the premise that I might put an electronic air horn on it in the future (again, for the car shows). There wasn't any sign of equipment mounted in the vehicle, I figured if any pieces were drilled they were replaced before the vehicle went out to the auction. No cage being a 9C3.
When I opened up the trunk at the dealership I got a mild suprise, the flashing lollypop red and blue LED lights were still mounted in the trunk. I unplugged the harness on both lights and removed them, had to drill the rivets to remove the brackets. Tried to talk to Kerr Industries about getting amber/clear in place of the red/blue to keep the OEM option intact, they didn't return my call or EMAIL. Figures. I found amber LED lights that will fit directly in place of the old ones, but haven't gone to install them yet.
There's some modding you can safely do without voiding warranties. My mods are completely removeable, the only thing I can't replace are the 18" police wheels as I sold off the rims to a local jobber here for fleet spares (well, still have the spare!). The Rotofab can be removed in 20-30 minutes, the SLP exhaust can come off and the OEM go right back on (I saved the old mufflers and tips for the axle-back, they're in my shed), engine cover is 10 seconds to pop off. Haven't done it yet but when I go to do a tune I will make the tuner leave it unlocked to where the OEM tune can be put back in if necessary. I used to program for GoFasst so I know some of the basics (yeah, I know, OBD-1 for the 94/95's). The wheels I used are the G8 wheels off the V6 cars, they're a direct bolt-on and all you have to do is change the center caps.
I am badged as a SS (since I wanted to de-cop the car's look), when I badged it I used the 2010 & up Camaro white SS emblem. Ironically it's exactly the same as on the new SS Sedan, and boy does it confuse people! Sometimes the minimalist look is definitely better!

Re: Welcome to New Caprice!
All, for those that have not seen pics of mine or know my story. It has been featured in several online magazines from Motor Trend to GMInside News, etc.

I have very recently learned that Tom S. (maybe he will appear on this forum and introduce himself), also purchased one of the "famed" 13 from Criswell Chevrolet. I believe that now makes two of us (maybe the only 2). We believe GM stopped the other 11 or 10 from being sold direct to the public.

Re: Welcome to New Caprice!
Steve, it's good to meet you, quite an honor to met the man who first figured out how to finagle the system. Also you've got a very nice 96 there as well. I miss my 95 Caprice still, had it for over 5 years and 100,000 miles. I had to wait to purchase my Caprice until I retired (well, mid-point career change) from my Public Safety employment but it was worth it. The paint on your side vents really sets the car off I think, also see you've badged yours as a SS. Mine is SS badged as well, although I did what GM did with the SS Sedan, the 2010 & up Camaro white SS badge on the rear decklid. Had no idea they'd do exactly the same thing with the SS Sedan when I badged it, mine's been running around since last August. Sometimes minimalist is better.
Here's a shot of the back of my car showing the SLP exhaust and the SS emblem. Eric

Re: Welcome to New Caprice!
Hello everyone.
Eric, thanks for setting up this forum.
I just bought my car on March 9th.
So far I love it.
It's a 2011 Caprice PPV 9C3, Karma
I found this car on AutoShopper at a dealership in Mystic, Ct.
They bought it at auction from GM.
It was a GM Executive car in Michigan.
It had 8000 miles on it when I bought it.
Got a couple of recent stories to tell, I'll tell them in the lounge.
