First of all "Hello!"
I cant imagine how much time I've spent introducing myself on countless forums... crownvic.net, thirdgen.org, chevytalk, VWvortex, etc...
Anyway, I'm here now. I've done the typical "lurking" and felt I may as well jump in and get this party started. This is the newest, lowest mileage, and most expensive car that I have owned in my short (so far) life. I managed to snag a New York-used 2012 6.0 PPV from an ex-fleet dealer. The car had 100,5XX miles when I snagged it for $11k plus tax/title/fees. The car has a shoddy repaint, but with a wet sand and buff could look great.
Right off the bat, the car will need some love. The drivers power seat doesn't let the front of the seat bottom to go down. The motor clicks, and looks to try to move the seat, but I believe the cork-screw-like adjuster is rusted to the motor splines. I may take it apart, as soaking it with WD-40 didn't seem to help. The car did not come with baby-seat holsters installed, but in a box in the back seat. I ripped the back seat out not only to install those, but to be sure I didn't accidentally buy any contraband. This was important, as my girlfriend and I are expecting our first child this spring (wish me luck!).
Plans for this car are pretty mild, really just tints, cold-air, maybe a tune, and some lowering springs. The car is plenty fast for a daily, and I also have a 92 Camaro that I plan to build up more (currently LT1 swapped, megasquirt ECU, T-5 trans, full UMI rear suspension, and a LOT of parts waiting to be installed. best of 13.7@100mph) and a 1966 Chevy Caprice wagon I'm working on selling (original big block/AC car, now 305/TH400, 12 bolt 3.31 rear, and desperate need of a new interior/paint job).
Anyway, now that I've ranted enough, I'm hoping in my own tearing through my car trying to get it all nice and pretty I'll be able to give back the forums a fraction of what I have already been able to take from it.
So here I am...

Re: So here I am...
Welcome...took care of the delete requests for you.
Always good to see another PPV come into the civilian fleet!
Certainly some challenges, but these are special cars, and we all hope to enjoy them for a very long time. We're all interested in doing things to make them stand out from the crowd--they're very good at confusing the crap out of most people as to what they are, and I'm pretty sure most of us like it that way!
We're all here to help one another, so update as you go. Lots of good folks and interesting ideas in this ownership group--the G8 groups especially have really laid the groundwork for many of the things that are able to be done to the PPV, in all areas, so be sure to take a look in those Forums, too.
The group here has been growing steadily, and now seems to be reaching a level of "critical mass" to result in much more traffic than we've had in the past couple of years.
Diggin' the B-wagon....if I didn't have my own "vintage" project already (1970 Nova--first car, purchased new), I'd be tempted!
Again--Welcome aboard!

Re: So here I am...
Welcome to the group and congrats on the Caprice and the baby. Trust me, having those rear window switches dead is a good thing till the kiddos turn 5 or 6 at least. I always keep the child lock on for the interior door handles as well. My three year loves playing games when we try to load him in the car.
I have already fully up fitted some of these Caprices and have already decommissioned one so I'm pretty familiar with them though not as familiar with a few 2011-2013 specific items as I would like to be. Sometime undoing poor decommissioning work can be a headache but once you are familiar with the car its not too bad. I would recommend getting a PDF copy of the 2012 Caprice Municipal Guide as it explains many of the PPVs unique options and factory wiring options and configurations for police related equipment. Though the equipment is gone, the wiring information is invaluable when diagnosing things like faulty rear windows, in op dome lights, in on brake lights, etc.....'
And just curious, how does a 100,000 mile Caprice PPV drive? I assume it runs great still but is the suspension still tight? Is the car still squeak and rattle free? Do you know if the car came from a rural area or urban?

Do the inside rear door latches work? They usually come disconnected from the factory. If yours are working, then someone along the way reconnected them. Test them either with someone outside the car, or with the back windows rolled down.

Although I cant say that I know much different, it drives very nicely. The only odd noises I hear (heard) were the exhaust (which I thought was stainless steel) had rotted at the flex joint all the way by the rear muffler. Nothing an angle grinder couldn't fix. I got a bit more of an aggressive tone out of the ordeal, too! Suspension feels tight, no noises, but does have a slight drift to the right. I'll need to get an alignment before I throw on my next set of tires, as the current Firestones are almost done.9C1fanatic wrote:And just curious, how does a 100,000 mile Caprice PPV drive? *edit* the car seems to have come from a suburb of Buffalo, based off a receipt that I found under one of the seats.
The rear handles were connected when I got the car, so I guess I got lucky.CrashTestDummy wrote:Do the inside rear door latches work? They usually come disconnected from the factory.
