Show us your Nose Art (sorta)

Post by yargnits »

I've been a New Caprice owner for only 3 weeks and have made a couple appearance updates to make it my own. One of the most agonizing decisions has been what to put on the front of the new ride.

Fate gave me a car with a license plate holder, so I needed to put something there. When I first got the car I threw on a #3 Dale Earnhardt plate until I could think of something better. Then it dawned on my to go back to the 70s/80s Chevy standard for vanity plates.

A picture of my new car is below along with the car I drove 30 years ago. I think the plate works today as well as it did then. While some here are embracing the car's Australian roots, I'll happily claim the domestic badging. :D I did add a smoked cover for today's car so the plate isn't too bright.

What do you have?

Regular license plate. :roll: In Texas, they require you have a plate on the front, too, and when making their monthly 'metrics', a missing front plate is a good excuse to pull someone over and start writing. I guess they need a nice, flat surface to bounce the laser beam off of. :shock:

They even get testy when you suction-cup the license plate to the inside of the windshield.

Our antique cars only require (and all they give you is) 1 plate. I have a Cadillac plate on the front of our 79 Seville.

I was told the reason for a front plate is so the "man" can check it, even if you're backed into your drive. I"m glad we don't have front plates in Indiana. I'd have to buy a laser jammer frame. 8-)

Very cool. I saw your pics in the new member section and like the look you gave your car.

I was thinking about giving a shout-out to the Aussie roots by replacing the US flag in my USA-1 plate with the Australian flag, then see how many people notice.

lowbox....welcome!

There seem to be some things happening in Australia with Caprice (and anything with the Omega/Berlina front bumper cover profile) that we're not fortunate enough to have here--please tell us all about the add-on front air dam/spoiler/splitter/deflector, as well as the tight-mesh grille.

I'm guessing the grille may be home-grown, but the spoiler is definitely a manufactured (aftermarket?) part made to fit these cars--did you get it from Australia? You obviously have found a connection--spill the beans, please!

Nice adaptation of the Camaro SS hood "vent port", too!

Ill play,
the black trim on the bumper was on it when I got the car
I pulled one side off and decided it looked better than the push bar holes that its covering so it went back on.
I added the Outlaw plate to counter the spot light

I'll jump in too since I missed this thread originally back in March.

My goal was to get something that said Caprice (on the front). Most people ask me if the car is a Malibu or Impala, so I was hoping this would help them with that mystery. I know the Caprice scripting is in the Impala SS font from the 90s, but that's fine with me since I am a proud owner of a bunch of B-Bodies, including an original Impala SS from that era. And I happen to have a soft spot for any GM car with a Caprice badge of any year...

There are a bunch of plates on eBay with the same style but in different colors:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/311573767077" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.ebay.com/itm/221998231937" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.ebay.com/itm/301945702654" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.ebay.com/itm/231930634282" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And if someone sees this thread years from now when those links are expired, just do a search for this exact string "caprice license plate -frame". You must exclude frame from the search since you will get 10,000 hits with nothing but frames in the results.
