Scored 2015 SS Dash and Console for my 2014 PPV

Post by Silversled »

While these aren't a total bolt on, they are mostly for my 2014 PPV. I still need to source the shifter and selector link to the 6L80 to convert the column shifter to floor shift. I'm still figuring out if I can package the existing parking brake cable under the SS center console or if I'll need to convert to the electrically actuated version; still some figuring to do.

These were too good to pass up so I jumped on them.

Nice ! Looking forward to seeing it in the car . I like the interior in the SS so I believe it should really wake up the Caprice. Please keep us posted as you go along .

I'll just occasionally add updates here to keep everything in one thread.

I test fitted the center console this afternoon. I decided to retain the footwell parking brake arrangement so I'll need to do some minor mods to the internal ducts at the bottom of the console to clear the existing cable mechanism. Otherwise all the mount points line up and it should bolt right in without issue. All I'm waiting for is the shifter assembly to arrive.

As you know by now the ebrake is in the same place as on the SS. they just extended it to the pedal (same way they did the shifter). No doubt you can tap the bowden cable that's in the center.

Looks great. TBH I would keep the column shifter. Having extra coin space in the middle is nice

The shifter is quite easy to convert over but converting the e-brake is another story. The SS has the switch on the center console but the controller and solenoid/actuator is located on top of the rear subframe which will need to be dropped to install. The power connector (which is missing on the PPV) also reads the GM bus data since the controller needs to know vehicle speed, brake application, etc as the e-brake has logic on how it works. It's easier to just retain the footwell cable brake. The PPV center console e-brake bracket needs to be trimmed to minimize its size to fit under the SS console.

Chevy SS center console installed retaining the stock footwell parking brake. The shifter assembly is on national back order so I'll roll with this setup until about Christmas time when I'll have time to install the SS dash and redo some wiring.

This is so awesome! I looked into this on my 2014 a year ago or so and got discouraged over the parking brake issue. I also did not want to hassle with an electric parking brake. Nice to know it still works with the foot pedal. I noticed it looks like the trim out pieces at the bottom of the dash do not line up. I know you have an SS dash but I was not planning on replacing mine so I wonder if that could be fixed just by ordering the same trim out pieces from an SS or do you need the whole SS dash to make it work?

Nice looking interior. Very well done.

9c1fanatic,
Thanks. Yes the dash is trimmed short at the factory and capped with that horrendous looking plastic cover. If you remove it, you'll see where they cut it. If you had the SS dash, you could technically cut the appropriate bits off and graft it on to the PPV dash but for the effort, you may as well replace the entire dash. Alternatively, you can pattern the pieces out of ABS sheet stock of similar texture and JB weld or hot weld them into place to close out the holes. It would be functional but it won't be pretty.

As for the parking break, you will need to trim the stock plastic bracket to the smallest size possible and it still function. Once you clean up the bracket, you need to clearance the air ducting inside the console to clear the brake bracket. It's a tight fit but it will all go together without compromising brake function.

After installing this, I can now see the vision of what this car should be!

Very nice. I was hoping those trim out pieces were removable but if not, Ill just keep an eye out for the whole dash like you did. I have seen what you are talking about on the Caprice, does not look like a factory cut at all. Likely done to reduce tooling costs for the police version.
