2014-15 dash into a 2011-13

Post by elmer91 »

So I wrecked my 2012 caprice a few weeks ago. front end damage, haven't taken it apart yet to see the full extent of the damage, but I do know for sure that the dash needs replaced because of the air bags. I have found some wrecked 2014 caprices on Copart, and I know the dashes are different. Does anyone know if it would be possible to switch out the dash and the reinforcement bar? And also convert my tranny shifter from the floor to the column?

I think that the 2014 dash and internal bus communications changed in 2014. This would be a question for Chris at WAM. He is working with another forum member on kind of the same question.

Everything I have heard from various sources indicates that there was a change of the entire electrical architecture on this car in 2014 . I don't believe you could do it without a lot of work and it wont be plug and play. Everyone I know that works on them from dealerships to performance shops compare the 2014 up Caprice with the current Camaro when it comes to electronics and how the modules communicate where as the 2011-2013 cars are more foreign in nature or unique (not like other locally produced GM cars) and compare to the G8 and even the older GTO in terms of electrical architecture.

Just a very minor example of this, you can get a 2014 up Silverado key blank cut to fit a Caprice and it will successfully program and start the car. I have done this on over 30 Caprices. I have heard this wont work on the 2013 and older. Even the security system seems different.

Well, physically the dash might fit in the vehicle body. Not going to say anything about mounting locations as with any interior refresh holes probably get drilled in new places and what not.

Electrically and electronically, don't waste your time. The electrical architecture of the car is a complete retrofit. I mean, you can get anything you want to work if you dump enough money into it. However, doing on an average person's budget is not really feasible.

Move along, nothing to see here.....

For a 2011 Caprice, I want a new key fob replacement. I saw the post on this, but in reality what do I need to get a complete key replacement from the dealer. (do not need remote start). I do not need it cut as I have a locksmith that can do it.

I talked to Chris from WAM and he basically said the same thing. Technically not impossible but definitely not worth it

You will probably still need the key fob part that is actually for the 11-13. I am not for sure though, I've never dealt with the newer models. I am mainly surprised by the fact you have a locksmith that can cut the key for you. I went to get a replacement from the dealer and they couldn't even cut it, had to order me one in that was cut already.
