well, if I would ever fix the photos, among other things it shows that the original Caprice controls can be transferred into the G8 wheel, so the red lights aren't on mine.
The other thing is that there's an Australian/Holden wheel trim kit in the correct shade (I think CP called it Platinum) to match the rest of the PPV interior that replaces the G8 trim. Didn't cost much, either.
Wait....here's one of the same pics:

Re: steering wheel swap
My leather steering wheel is fine after almost 2 years and was a used one to boot. I little more fading on the thumb wheels, but that was already starting on one.
So here are my original pictures reposted.

Re: steering wheel swap
Got our leather wheel installed yesterday. Ordered the kit from CP (Thanks, Paul!), and it got here in about 7 days. He had already assembled all of the buttons and trim, and it included a new anchor bolt. The whole job took about a half hour to complete, with most of that time spent trying to find a screw driver of the proper size and length (I ended up using a No. 2 phillips screw driver) to get the airbag/hornpad assembly off the wheel. Anyway, pics, or it didn't happen:

New:
I also started checking to see what it will take to install the ticket light. I'll use a length of 1/8" thick aluminum bar, so I can use machine screws to secure the light to the headliner. I also had to go look in the FSM for the proper procedure to remove the front dome light/glasses holder assembly (hint: there's a screw behind the glasses holder). Armed with that info, I'll install the ticket light, as soon as the antenna I ordered comes in. That will fill the hole in the roof just above the ticket light location, so I'll do them all at once to hopefully save some time.

Re: steering wheel swap
Got my wheel a while ago from Karo (he's got more I think) but finally just got the trim. Got a line on some black button bezels to complete the black out look but could not wait to post. Already got some G8 controls from someone on the G8 board but failed to read they were silver in color, Looked black to me in the pictures.
Parts Needed:
Steering Wheel - About $350
Rear Cover - GM 92194403 about $30 (Discontinued in the USA as of May 2019)
Black Spoke Covers - Holden 92194423 (think it's a kit with both sides) $40 to $80 depending on shipping.
Black control bezels GM Part 92207036 (some sites show discontinued) I am only using bezels, hope to resell controls to the G8 guys who have worn theirs out. Found some new for $66 on ebay. Retail is about $100 and standard motor products make some aftermarket ones part number SAS225 for a bit more.
New Torx bolt for the center if you want, I just reused mine with some fresh locktite on it.

Re: steering wheel swap
Nice wheel ! Going to upgrade from the plastic wheel myself . Hate to admit it but I really like the leather zl1 wheel wish that was a viable option for our cars .
Re: steering wheel swap
2014 and up should be able to convert to the zl1 since the SS guys are doing it.Gerome wrote:Nice wheel ! Going to upgrade from the plastic wheel myself . Hate to admit it but I really like the leather zl1 wheel wish that was a viable option for our cars .

Re: steering wheel swap
Yeah I saw that . But my caprice is a 2011 . Might give it a shot if I can find a decent price on a wheel and see if I can make it work .PPV wrote:2014 and up should to convert to the zl1 since the SS guys are doing it.Gerome wrote:Nice wheel ! Re: steering wheel swap
YEa it seems like all the similar buttons are there would just have to find out what OHM each button outputs and is that matches up with the Caprice. If it does not would have to modify the boards of the controls or do something in line on the wire.. That is assuming the center hole splines are the same.
Re: steering wheel swap
Just an update to this modification - Some guys on teh FB are in the process of doing this and found the back cover 92194403 to be discontinued. So if you come across any G8 part our that has the leather wheel grab it up if not for you for another member.
Have an email into a parts guy in AU to see if they still got a supply of them. WIll update. UPDATE - They got plenty of them , that's good.
