Rear side window trims falling off

Discussion on body issues/mods, appearance, interior/trim, and detailing (i.e. how to keep your car looking showroom new, or a reasonable facsimile thereof...).

T-M, I may be wrong, but I suggest that the trim on Paul's police unit is actually all in place--the paint colors and paint scheme, combined with lighting level & angle, and any filtering/anti-glare function of the camera have made it appear that the bright trim is not in place....while I believe it is.

If you go back and look at the shot of my car with the trim missing on the left rear quarter, I don't see any similar convolutions of the rubber around the glass on Paul's cruiser. My take is that either the photographic process has buried the trim detail, or the brightwork is painted in the upper body color.

Paul should be able to clear this up, if he sees this.

A bit off-topic....but just as I thought, the posted photo was hiding the bright trim, to keep this relevant.

It's just SO weird to compare these:

The other thing that just struck me about these cars--was the full wheel cover an option for 9C1 in 2011? Obviously, if the AA County agency did not get any 9C3's (2011 or 2012), the full cover was at least an option on 9C1 for 2012. Considering no V6 cars were delivered for MY 2011, if this was a 2011 car instead of 2012, regardless of caps or covers, it would be a V8. The picture of the rear fascia left some doubt in my mind that this was a 2012 car, as it's not easy to see the bumper config between exhaust tips, but the V6 seals the deal.

Hey sorry I'm late! Yes my chrome trim is still there. The lighting and angle made it hard to see in the photo I posted.

As for the two photos Navy posted, the first one is a 2008 Impala...not sure why we are even talking about it...and the second is a 2012 Caprice V6 (not mine). We ordered mostly all Crown Vic's for 2011 with a few FWD Impalas. 2012 we ordered 8, yes a whopping 8, V6 9C1 Caprices. They are all V6, all have full wheel covers, they all have carpet, no heated mirrors, they were all hugo blue. They were sent out, the light blue was painted on, the decals, light bars and radios were installed and on the road they went.

All of our cars, no matter what brand, come with full size wheel covers, though some guys buy their own center caps and trim rings.

I think our cars look awesome. Our former chief decided to go with an all black car, but we have since got a new chief and are trying to smooth talk him into keeping the two tone blue. Everything we have its two tone: uniforms, motorcycles, special vehicles, even the helicopter, so hopefully tradition will prevail and we will start buying blue again. Not sure what to do with the 22 black cars we are getting in though...I suggested to wrap them for 1 year.

This site is pretty cool, it shows most of out vehicles:

I'm mad as hell tonight. I took my car through a car wash I'd never used before on the way to the weekly Orlando meet, and wouldn't you know it, the drying blower got my left side trim. I heard a small "thunk" from the left hand side when the car was being dryed and knew instantly what had happened. As soon as I rolled out of the wash I got the wash crew to secure the machine, then we went and found the piece. It was a miracle that it was not scratched or marred, so it should be able to be glued back on. I'm going to visit the dealer's body shop tomorrow morning, but of all the times for this to happen... grrrrrr.....

The glue looks to be of pretty poor quality. Before delivery of the car the right side trim was missing and had to be replaced, so this makes both window trims now. I was easily able to flake off chunks of the glue with a fingernail, and it was not at all sticky. Holden should be taken to task for poor material used for assembling this component.

So.... to the body shop I go..... At least I've still got a few months on the 3/36 warranty!

Got the piece glued back into place without problem at my friend's body shop (dealer was slammed), just waiting for the adhesive to set so the molding is taped for 24 hours. You can see from looking at the backside of the piece that the factory glue didn't even touch 95% of the molding, it was all bright & shiny metal. It's a wonder it held on there as long as it did. I know this is a common problem with these cars so it's got to be a process issue.

So... I'll pull the tape off tomorrow afternoon and be ready for the roadtrip in a few days, no harm no foul.

Maybe they should have used the adhesive found on the brake caliper-to-pad application? :D

Ok screw you GM. My warranty was out on september 12 and not the whole month of september. I took it in on the 24th to see about my trim on the back window. Those fu#@ers want me to pay $100 out of the $789 bill to replace those two windows because they do not sell the trim separately.

If you have the trim then you should keep it to sell later to some poor shmuck who wants his stuff to match in a few years. Go get it fixed now if you can before the "GM Calculator" makes you pay.

There should be a recall on this but because they are gay and have faulty ignition switches, they want money...oh btw they have recalled our ignition switches but they do not have a fix for them yet according to the dealer.

Pissed...reason 58 why my loyalty to GM is fading (just like the glue from their windows)

Wow, 3 posts in and you're on a rant! Welcome!

I just this week "took appropriate action" with regard to both of mine (which I had temporarily re-attached with double-sided tape)....2500 miles and roughly 10 months left on the bumper-to-bumper coverage. First real warranty visit for the car.

I do have spares....

You are correct about the ignition key--service writer pointed it out to me, same situation. The fix may involve all new keys, which will make my flip-key effort useless.

I lost my right one in the car wash. I didn't realize it till a week later. I'll have to take it in before my warranty runs out.
