I've looked (ran out of patience) to see how to add a passenger door lock to the 2011's and haven't seen if anyone has done this. How hard is it to do for an old man? lol

In adding stuff to my door harness I noticed on the passenger door the latch had the circuits present for the door lock/unlock command from the key. They were just not hooked up in the wiring harness. So I would assume it would be getting a passenger side key barrel and handle trim piece from a 2012, some of the linkage pieces and then figuring out the wiring that send the lock and unlock signals to the BCM. I can't remember where the wires were missing but may have my doors apart here in a bit for a mirror Upgrade and can document what my 2011 has.

I remember seeing it because I thought that's smart they can use the same parts for the AU and US versions and depending on which side they key is on they would only have to change the wiring harness to correspond to the key side of the car.

Well first things first start searching for wrecked 12's because I do not see key barrels even listed in the online catalogs, pass or driver side.

I have a key barrel from a g8 and will have the cyclindar changed to match my key. I am inquiring if it's just any easy hook up or do I need the harness etc...... Thanks

Do you know or have you confirmed that the right and left side are the same part number? Just turned over? Or did the G8's get a passenger side barrel?

That is a very good question. I believe they had one just like the 2011 ppv. I didn't think about that. I hope just flipping it will work. :o

Good and bad news for ya.

Ripped into my doors tonight and found out some info.

1. Key barrel will swap and flip side to side - no issue. Barrel Bracket Lines up and everything do not need to modify at all. Just make sure and get an extra rod that goes from the barrel to the latch. EDIT: Did notice something that maybe a problem. On the drivers side the way the key barrel assembly sits on the bottom is a window in the metal case where you can see the tumblers and give them a lube if you want. When you flip that over to the passenger side that window is now on the top. Thought no big deal but when I was looking at it I thought why would they put that there? Occurred to me it most likely acts as a drain for any water that gets into the key barrel through the key hole flap (high pressure water) or any that falls on it inside the door. So having the drivers door barrel on the passenger door you would actually trap water in the barrel and that would lead to corrosion and rust pretty quickly I would imagine. So would advise to look for a wrecked 12 or 13 and get the correct barrels. I would tell you the GM part number but I cannot find it!

2. Wiring is present in the connector to the passenger side door latch to send the lock and unlock signals. I tried to move my drivers door latch over to the passener door to test the wires but I was unable to because the wires are not in the correct locations. I am sure the correct latch for that side will have the terminals in the correct position for the wires.

3. Bad news: Our passenger side door latches are missing the locking arm mechanism and I assume the internal micro switches that trigger the door lock and unlock signal. So you would need to source a passenger side latch assembly from a 2012 PPV or a drivers side (our passenger side) from AU. Either should work.

And I did realize something tonight. The door unlock when you use the key is a physical action and an electrical action. Some of the G8 guys were getting locked out when their batteries died. I assumed that was because the door lock system was all electrical (just a switch telling the doors to unlock using their motors. Ours physically unlock then if you hold it in the unlock position a while (or move the key again) it send a signal to unlock all the other doors. Wonder why theirs did not do the same?

So while the wires are there I cannot tell if this would actually work until you get the correct latch assembly that has the arm for the rod from the key barrel.

Example. Here is an Ebay AU right front actuator and it has the lever we need:
For easy searching the Holden Part Number is: 92290821 - but I cannot find a listing for 2012 PPV RF actuator in the states tha is not also listed for 11 and 13 so I know those are the non lock ones. (correction according to the order guide 12 and 13 came with passenger side key locks)

GM Parts info:
Shows for 12-13 - 92261208
Shows for 11 Only - 92236013 As Discontinued - would make sense because you can put in the 2012 part and just not hook up the key barrel linkage and it would work just fine in an 11. But the G8 guys found this number to replace theirs 92290824 shows for 2011 caprice only so that must be the non lock arm version.
