LED Taillights...

Post by Tom Slick »

Well, I found a set of LED taillights for $240, shipped... just have to get him paid and they will be on their way...

I hope they work!

dont know how your light laws work but in aus side lights are not required,
with the LED caprice lights when viewed from behind they have a very nice even light distibution.
as we go around them starting from their 7 o'clock position the LED's start to go dim at the base row then the next, just after the 8 o'clock position they are all out, at 9 o'clock (you are at 90 deg to their tails) their is only a dim glow of light coming from the tail lights

tom, is the unused wire you found an active indicator wire or has it been turned off in the system, long ago we converted US cars by running a wire from the flasher can to the new amber indicator lamps which had to be fitted and cutting the wire between the flasher and the brake switch.

Yep, from Australia...

Jason, not sure if the wire is active or not... my taillights have the same lense colors...

the brake/turn combo had to be a US police request as every other user has the euro 4 lamp system so you may need to add a load resistor to the LED to compensate for the lack of power usage.

when you receive the LED tails it will (should) have an amber lamp in it's outside position with the reverse on the inside, if the indicator wire is active it could also provide power to the LED side marker once the brake/indicator link is cut if you choose that path.

Sometimes Aussie lamps don't make it thru US Customs because they generally do not have DOT markings (approval numbers).

Tom,
I received my lights, however they were broken. Sending them back. But, I did get to take pictures of the connector and I have the pin-outs for them. There is a combined ground for the incandescent white reverse and amber turn signal. There is a common ground for the LED's on and stop.
