The G8 console swap.

Discussion on body issues/mods, appearance, interior/trim, and detailing (i.e. how to keep your car looking showroom new, or a reasonable facsimile thereof...).

The G8 console swap.

Post by Dut_The_SS_nuT »

I got a big box of goodies today. I have ordered the center support and bezel, but who knows when that'll be here. I'm working on getting the other little tidbits before starting the process. Much appreciation from any input from the guys who have done the console swaps. Has anybody actually successfully completed the tap a shift yet?

It depends on your definition of "successful" :lol:
Mine works, but with no on screen display and no redline on the tach I basically never use it

I just finished my console swap. Hooked up the tap shift as well, you just have hook up two wires to BCM and G8 harness. Like they said no screen display, I am sure I’ll get some tuning this summer so at least I’ll have it ready to go. It works tho, I’ll take it out to play when it gets warmer.

To display on the dash will require the instrument cluster to be reprogrammed according to a 9C3 specs, but there is an easy solution if you need to see what gear you are in using the android Torque app and a custom pid to show on your phone.
I just tried it, and it works well with my car. Works in auto or sport mode.

Follow the instructions here on this board:
http://www.silveradosierra.com/how-to-a ... 34826.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And from that thread, the youtube to show you how with settings:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_cont ... uOvRjyBRA4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I set it up exactly like he shows. All thanks to that thread, I just googled it. Just mount the phone somewhere and go.

I don't think programming the cluster is out of the question so long as White Audio can do it. Otherwise, I'm really ok with just having to keep track of what gear I'm in. I've driven manual tranny vehicles my whole life until I bought my Impala SS and this. A simple flip back to Drive and the computer takes back over at a stop or slowing. I have a Transit for work with a push button shift on the shifter knob, and that's how I drive it when I get bored, makes me feel like I am shifting back to first :lol:

So 91C02920,

From what I read, you are the one I need to talk to about wiring up the tap shift. I scored the whole g8 center console harness to splice into

I haven't found anything yet where anyone has tried the Series 1 console with the 9C1 center support. It's pretty obvious why the Series 2 like the 9C3 has won't work, being that it has a totally different mounting setup, and bezel. But the yard I bought the console from sent me EVERYTHING less that upper tray with the 12v plug, where I plan on putting the smokers pack when I finally get the 9C3 center support and bezel. Only God knows how long that will take since it's all back ordered and they can't even give a date. I'm just itching for cup holders.... :roll:

Its pretty easy to set up. Only 2 wires to run for it from the shifter connector to bcm connector X1.
X1 Pin 20 on the BCM is empty, run a wire from X1 P20 to P4 on the shifter connector.
I used the sport button wire from the 9C1 setup for this. Move it from bcm connector X2 Pin 20 to X1 Pin 20. In the shifter connector side move that end from Pin 5 to Pin 4.

For the other wire, BCM side X1 P17 has a purple wire in it that runs to the cruise control. Just tap into that line somewhere and run the wire to shifter connector Pin 1.

Thats it. TUTD worked for me and at least 2 other members just by doing that. No special programing needed.
Here is the wiring diagram for it:

Let me know if you need anything else.

This thread has the pinouts for BCM X1:

Here is the Shifter connector:

And here is a pic of what I had on my 9C1 shifter side before changing it over:
