Here's the pic of the blue inserts wrapped in vinyl shortly after I finished them. I didn't try wrapping the material around the insert and just cut along the bottom edge.
I can feel the edge of the material when I open the door and my thumb moves across the edge exposed from the handle being pulled out. It also took a lot of stretching to get the vinyl to work into the key recess on the driver's door; so much that it didn't stay. It looks okay and will get me until I give the car a rest when the salt trucks show up (Winter is Coming!), then I'll pull them back off and get them painted.
I also wrapped the bowties, which turned out much better and put them on a more appropriate thread:
