Finally Tinted

Post by lastcall190 »

Been trying to get my car in for tint for the past several months, things just kept popping up. Finally had it done yesterday to go along with a few other things I had done prior. Neno Products spotlight hole cover and wrapped two lower window moldings to see how it looks (will be doing the rest when weather brakes since I have no garage to work in). It's just a black caprice with tinted windows so it's hardly rare but just sharing.

EDIT: wow that file is huge... lemme resize; is this better, moderators?

Gave the car a wash this weekend before the rain came, and tried my hand at wrapping the front grill surround (boy that was way harder than I would've though... need to redo at some point).

Apologies for the gratuitous posting, been a while since I had a black car and I was reminded at how sharp it can look when it's cleaned up. Still need a wax/compound/clay/etc. but for the first wash since a long time ago, I enjoy it.

Thanks. It's getting there, just have to get the rest of the blackout onto the chrome trim and tend to some of the more noticeable scratches, but from 10ft it looks good. One step at a time I suppose.

Yeah it does look great when really cleaned then you sneeze on it or something and its all a mess. I never had a black car until this and now I know why, took me half a day last time I did a really good cleanup including machine polish etc. Does look outstanding after like you own a limo. Have you tried the clay sponges they have out now? I've added that to my regular 30 min wash up now since you can just use them with the regular wash water and it keeps the stupid bug marks and spots on windows to a minimum.

Hahahah I know that feeling. Pull it out of the garage after cleaning it all up, and by the time it is out of your driveway it looks like all the pollen in your town landed on it.

I remember having a black Formula, and putting entire afternoons into detailing. It would be fun, fire up the grill, rotate around the car care products, and spend a whole afternoon with my friends cleaning our cars. After it was clayed and waxed, hell yeah. I tinted the windows, put black wheels with a polished lip on, and lowered it. The ten seconds before it gets dirty it is the best looking color, hands down.

Then I sold it and swore off black cars. So I compromised and got a black Z28 :| Why...

I haven't tried clay sponges but I will check them out. I wish I still had time to put into detailing as I think besides some small dings and dents, the paint isn't terrible on the car.

I have two Mother's Speed Clay 2.0's. Just some soapy water and elbow grease and you will be surprised how much better the surface feels. FYI, do not store the Speed Clay face down. It will stick to whatever it is resting on. On my Phantom Black paint once I fully detail the car it has a bronze tint to it, nice metal flake, love the look.

Just watched some vids on the speed clay, I had no idea that even existed. I must buy one now, that looks amazing. I don't mind claying, but shoot... if I can trim my time in half? Sign me up.
