Deer

Post by Nate68c10 »

I put new wheels on it and bam fucking deer runs out in front of me... Quoted $4800 for the repair so we'll see what Sate Farm does.

too bad, easily fixable depending on how insurance rates the value of car. Lets us know.

Ah man, that's just crap luck. It certainly looks repairable. If they want to total it, buy it back and fix it yourself with used parts from here, FB and car-part.com.

I'm not going to let them total it, I'm going to have them do some extra stuff on the side while they have it, got a couple extra dings that I'm going to get fixed while they have it apart and I'm thinking about having them fill the spotlight hole and paint the pillar depends on what they quote me on that.

Got my baby girl back they did an amazing job matching the paint, and I had them fix some rust from the back of the hood while they were in there, I wish I would have thought to have them fill the holes in the truck and piller while they had it, the only issue is the bumper cover swells up to the point where it almost touches the hood but at night when its cooled off and in the body shop the gap is perfect. I'm going to call them Monday but i dont think there is much they can do about it.

Did they reuse the reinforcement bar? Wonder if that bent up slightly thus pushing the cover up a bit? Tell them to give it a few whacks down.

Sounds like it's temperature-related. IIRC, there are push pins across the top, with bolts on the ends, attaching the cover to the fenders, and across the bottom. Not much to move, unless I'm missing something. You may go out and pop the push pins that mount the top of the cover to the cover support along the hood-to-bumper join when it's hot to see if things move a bit. Otherwise, yeah, I think there's not much else to do.

Maybe the bumper shock absorbers got pushed in a bit? Unless bent, they should pop back out, but if they're bent, or the bumper is tweaked a bit, preventing free movement of the absorber, this might shorten the arc that the cover can make, which could cause the kink in the middle you describe.

Just thinking out loud here.

Another attachment point(s) to look at... there are brackets under the headlights that have a couple of "capture" points that the back edge of the bumper cover snaps into. It is easy to miss those and have the bumper cover sitting on top of those brackets.

Good luck,
