DIY custom grille - Walker's Garage

Post by Navy Lifer »

Previously, I had posted viewtopic.php?f=20&t=183#p1686 about the possibility of using the HSV Grange grille in place of the PPV piece, only to find out how much it cost.

Quoted from C.P., from July 2013:
"2012-2014 HSV Grange Chrome Grille Assembly is approx US$900 just to buy. I don’t think the grille emblem is included as it has a separate part number.

I did see a used HSV Grange grille recently with chrome surround, minus the HSV emblem…..for $400 Thought the seller must have been smoking crack, but that was before I knew the HSV new price."

As a result, our own Scott Walker (novadeuce), after some time spent thinking about other options, and at my urging, has created a very nice stock grille--with no Bowtie.

It did take two grille inserts, PN 92260693, about $55 each, to create this new part

GM PART # 92260693
List Price: $77.00
Dealer Cost: $48.97
DESCRIPTION: INSERT

Yes, the chrome grille bezel has been painted body color, too.

I'll leave it to Scott to make further comment or answer any questions you may have.

Here are some pictures, along with a shot of the HSV grille.

I like. Why two grille inserts, though?

You have to have a donor for the flattened hexes and the leftover she'll is used to recess the inner grill. I originally wanted to replace the bow tie only but made the mistake of putting the two grills on top of each other in front of Bill Harper. Of course after we studied on it we came up with idea to do this and there it was. A recessed bow tieless grill.

I urge you all to try it or I can do it for you for $1950.00 delivered. I don't anticipate nor will I accept any orders. These are limited production. Mine and one for Harper, which will have a unique aspect to it.

If anyone would like more specific instructions, those are free upon the request

If that is 195.00 delivered, I can afford it. Tell me where to send the money. If it's 1950.00, I'll have to pass.

Bob,

It's one thousand nine hundred and fifty dollars. I wish that there was 195.00 worth of time in it. It was a real pain in the arse. Although I made a lot of mistakes on mine and cost myself a lot of time, hopefully Bill's grill will go a bit easier from what I learned. I sanded on that thing till my fingers bled and went numb. The thing that cost me so much time was sanding each hex smooth. If you look at a stock grill there is a dividing or transitional line in the hex itself. Due to the addition of the pieces added to replace the bow tie I had to smooth each hex. We will be trying some different things with Bills and hopefully we can have some pis up in the next 2-3 weeks

for those asking: addition of front lower fascia grille

http://newcaprice.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=179" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If enough people want this part, it's best to do a consolidated order, shipped to one address, and have that one person distribute the others. If you (individually) happen to be placing an order with C.P., it might work out to have your lower grille shipped direct, but it's all dependent on the size of the items, as space requirements (for packaging) become the single most important driver of shipping cost & method from Australia.

An order for 5 of these grilles, as an example, would be much better sent to one location, in all likelihood.
