Okay, so I finally got around to replacing my broken drivers mirror with a heat capable replacement.

Since this differed from my original mirror, I had to replace the passenger mirror, as well.

The following pictures are from the passenger side installation.

The focus is on the wiring.

The door harness carries five (5) wires to the plug.

The heated mirror showed five (5) wires in its receptacle whereas the unheated only had three (3).

Now, how will I know if the heaters are functional and working in these mirrors?

Currently, temperatures are in the 90's, here.

Is the heat symbol in the mirror glass supposed to light up when activated?

Best Regards,

Bob

Note the wire color differences from passenger and drivers.

So you should have 12 volt positive at the orange wire with the rear defogger on. And no do not think anything lights up on the mirror.

Now, why didn't I think of that?

Thanks, Steve, that's good literature, out of the service manual, yes?

I'm going to edit my photos, tomorrow, to get the correct correlating numbers on those plug wires...

Steve, you are correct. Nothing lights up in the mirror. And to verify heat, maybe use an IR Thermal gun at a point on the mirror. Place a piece of tape on the mirror and measure. The tape provides a dull spot that allows the IR beam to do its magic. And do the testing in the morning, in the shade. Get a measurement before and after turning on the rear defrost.

Actually, if you put your hand on the mirror you should be able to feel it heating up. I switched to heated mirrors in my dad's Acadia and it was hot out an I could feel it

I did heated mirror on my caprice yesterday and felt the heat but it was only 75 out
