Chinese backup camera
Re: Chinese backup camera
Since we lost some posts here I'll put this pic in again for future reference. The camera does have it's own guidance lines so you get two sets.
I have since learned that on some cameras you can ground pin 5 on the IC and make the lines go away. It's a tight fit to get in there to put in a jumper so it's a test I'll have to save for later. In the meantime I've ordered a second camera that promises control over guidance line display, as well as vertical and horizontal flip. http://www.ebay.com/itm/131293476574?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Once I have the new unit and it appears to work I'll be ready to tear into the plate light version a bit more aggressively.
UPDATE #1: I've pulled the camera out of the housing and jumpered pin 4 and 5, 4 being ground and 5 being SDA. This did nothing to the image. Still reversed and still has lines.
UPDATE #2: Doing more reading I tried 2 more methods to get rid of the overlay (lines) and both failed. The last attempt was to remove the EEPROM altogther thinking that is where the overlay image was stored, but the lines are still there and the image it still mirrored. At this point I can't figure out what the chip does. At this point I'm giving up on the camera. The only way it can be used (with a single set of lines) would be to shut the radios set. Off the top of my head I don't think that can be done. I will ask Chris in the WAMS group.

When you say mirrored, do you mean upside down? Or mirrored left to right?
As for the guidance lines, kinda looks like the cross hairs of a weapon on a space ship or fighter jet to me, use your imagination and mount a "Fire!" button on your dash and raise all kinds of questions! LMAO

Mirrored left to right to mimic what you see in a rear view mirror.storm9c1 wrote:When you say mirrored, do you mean upside down? Or mirrored left to right?LMAO
If I had a choice of which set of lines I'd keep, I'd keep the lines built into the camera. It seems to me that they would better represent the image from the license plate location with the camera angled down slightly.
I was thinking about putting 4 sensors in the rear bumper, but I'm getting use to the car and not having all the crutches the Yukon has. I do miss seeing outside mirror showing me my rear wheel and curb tho.

Re: Chinese backup camera
I finally hooked up the back up camera and all I get is fuzz. Too bad it fits nicely in the stock license plate hole.

Re: Chinese backup camera
More on the rear camera follies: As described in a previous discussion the rear bumper comes off very easy, unless you have large exhaust tips. But even with that I removed the three T20 screws in the rear of the wheel well and top edge pops right out with a slight tug. I worked my way around the bumper and was able to pull it out far enough to get to a grommet and drill a small hole for the camera.
I was able to power this camera up with the reverse lamps and it works fine in that regard. The issue I have with this camera (and I suspect it would be the same with the license plate lamp clip in version) is that it points down at the ground too much for how low it is on the car. So, I plan to buy a third camera and try again. I showed my 6 year old son the new camera and told him I'm not happy with where it's at and he pointed right at the trunk lock and said that's where it should go. Smart-ass. LOL
In the end it looks okay, even though I would have placed it a little farther back.

Re: Chinese backup camera
I got mine hooked up and working too. I went with the Boyo Vision VTL200CL. ( http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_693 ... 200CL.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ) Its a License Plate Frame Camera. I know some of you don't like these, but I went with it for a couple of reasons. 1. I wanted a Chrome Frame anyway. 2 I wanted some night vision or the like. This one has 2 3 watt ( if I remember right ) LED's that really help in lighting up the way. You can also Turn the Gridlines off, which is a must since our Radios have built in Grid lines. You can also turn the LED's off. Its also adjustable so you tilt the camera up or down to your liking. It also has 170 degree viewing angle. So far I am very very happy with it, but I have never had a back up cam before so that could be it. I will add pictures in a couple of days. The big problem now,,,, The regular Back up lights look orange color and very dim compared to the LED's on the Tag frame. Time to swap out some bulbs. lol

Re: Chinese backup camera
3rd times the charm. The final camera purchase was this model: http://www.amazon.com/AUTO-VOX-Waterpro ... ge_o00_s00" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I powered it with the rear lamps and it functions fine.
It can point straight back while mounting behind the plate so I can keep my plate cover on. Here's what it looks like installed and the view from the dash (Thanks to my 7 year old for acting as an ill fated juvenile). Last you'll see the view of a Buick Enclave about 1 foot back from my bumper.

Here is the pics of my back up can install. I really like the Chrome Plate frame. The LED lights are bright as hell too.

Are these cameras plug and play, or do you need the WAMS radio upgrade?
