Are you saying you could get a line level signal out of it? If so, that would be great!

Chris in theory would my not so clean idea of tapping the output wires (+s) and using them for the signal for the amp work? The signal wire is always a very small gauge and in theory if I'm correct as long as you're receiving both channel inputs it should work. I have some decent experience with subs and stereos (having done 2 sets of subs and two amp setups), and I agree if we could find a line out/remote wire from the radio that would be ideal as well.

I'm also talking about tapping the wires for a speaker amp as well as a sub amp. Not exactly the professional way but if I'm right it could work. In regards to what Sm said, the speaker amp I'm looking at has high level and low level input so win win. Most sub amps only have RCA jacks but those could theoretically also be spliced.

Tapping the wires for both channels is definitely not the textbook way of doing it, but I think it can be done, at least in theory.

Winter is a PITA for any interior work here in WI but the more we all know the better.

Finally, would custom sub boxes for G8, SS or even Commodore fit in our trunk or should we fab our own out of OSB?

I think the Caprice actually has more trunk space than a G8, so those parts should at least fit, if not roll around a bit. I believe the G8 has some bracing back there we don’t have to worry about.

Has there been any progress or any ideas on how to successfully wire an amp? Is there a designated line out or remote signal wire? Anyone have a wire diagram of the harness off the radio?

Pinout for the 11-13's is here and if you notice number 14 looked promising but I tried and did not detect either positive or negative signal there. So it must only be active on head units that are designed to work with the factor amp. PPV's are not.

Thanks for the wire reference. It seems like I might have to go with my theory of tapping the signal wires of both channels. At least the remote on/off into the amp should be easy enough.

Really? Any chance making that part of the standard package radio programming package? That way we can say for all future orders if you got it programmed by WHite the spot is active. With what 12 volts positive?

Great! I was hoping to have a reason to take my dash apart again and break some tabs.

Yup only issue is in this application I'm not 100% sure how it will react. Ideally it'll turn the output on and keep the audio the same level however in most applications this happens and you get a huge drop in output down down to a decent level for an AMP LOL Anyone want to play guinea pig?
