Let's talk keys

Post by Siid »

I only got one key with my 9c1. The key has the unlock and trunk buttons, but does not have a lock button. I come from LE background so it isn't a big deal to lock my vehicle with the doors lock button or using the key, but I'd love to replace the rubber buttons and/or purchase an extra key. I don't like the idea of only having one key.

Any good deals out there for keys? Or places that sell the buttons themselves?

Thanks in advance!

I should add, I have looked on eBay but I try to order from a US source when possible. I wouldn't mind a flip key if I was able to find a couple.

I had a key replaced under warranty, but the cost is only $45 from a dealer if you have to pay for it.

Factory remote control door lock system has a 3-pushbutton or 4-pushbutton configuration--there is no version with 2 buttons--door unlock & trunk release only, at least that I'm aware of. Got a picture?

Coded key (fixed) - comes with replacement lock cylinder, or a key can be ordered from GM SPO already cut to match the vehicle lock cylinder--must have key code info for vehicle
http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/chevrolet/ ... t_name=key" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Uncut key (fixed) - requires local cutting by dealer or locksmith with correct equipment
http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/chevrolet/ ... t_name=key" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Transmitter - without remote start - includes pushbutton cover
http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/chevrolet/ ... ransmitter" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Pushbutton (cover) - 3 buttons (lock, unlock, trunk release--comes with transmitter above)
http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/oe-gm/92245049" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
NOTE: for service replacement, as this part does wear with use

As far as a flip key, there is no US Chevrolet model that used the same lock cylinder, and a key recall has technically taken away the flip key option for both G8 & PPV (note that PPV was never offered with flip key).

You may still be able to find the GM flip key (for G8) PN 89027333, but I recall it was only possible to get it from GM when ordering a pre-cut key--and that has been discontinued because of the key recall.

Still listed, but I'm not sure if it can actually be purchased.
http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/oe-gm/89027333" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (cut to match)

Flip key listed for G8--not clear if this is uncut or comes pre-cut with lock cylinder--assume it's uncut

Flip Key - the only option using US parts is the G8 flip key, blank PN 89027333 and it comes with a Pontiac arrowhead emblem. The only other option would be to find out if C.P. or someone in Australia can supply the Middle East equivalent with a Chevy bow tie. The flip key is a direct exchange with your existing key/transmitter--the 2 parts separate (not hard to do, once you figure it out) and the new (flip) key replaces the fixed key. The Camaro flip key will not work--different lock cylinder.

Key has to be cut using the key code provided with the PPV keys, unique to your vehicle--dealer orders the key with this information and it comes pre-cut.

Note: GM PART # 89027333 REQUIRES KEY TO BE OBTAINED THROUGH YOUR LOCAL GM DEALERSHIP. WE ARE NOT ABLE TO SUPPLY THIS KEY DUE TO SECURITY REASONS.

I should have been more clear. My key is the standard key, but the rubber button is broken out of the "lock doors" button position haha

And that's why the service replacement pushbutton (actually a cover), PN 92245049, is available separately
