Those with Remote Start

Post by yargnits »

I added remote start to my 2011 by adding the hood switch and getting a new key fob. 90% of the time it takes 2 attempts to actually start the car. i.e. I push the lock button to see the lights flash, then push and hold the start button until the lights flash again. The car doesn't start. Do the same procedure a second time and the car starts. Kinda annoying. Anyone else have this issue?

Did you have your BCM worked on by Chris? Maybe he can answer? I have all the parts to do this, but haven't sent him my BCM yet.

You may need your Theft Deterrent Module updated, any dealer or shop with TIS2WEB can do this; takes about 5 minutes tops. Contact us from the site for specifics we should be able to direct you in the right direction; and yes we did his BCM I believe :)

My '11 came w/ OEM remote start. I press "lock" 2 times then press "start" - starts every time like this.
If I only press "lock" once then 'start" then will only falsh park lights and not start.
So lock,lock,start.
Even works from the mud room with the car in the detached garage, can hear the exhaust flare up!

To add another thought to my previous post about why this might be is that a few times I was able to open the driver's door from the outside after locking the car w/ the remote (and subsequently causing the alarm to go off). Might be that the linkage is dragging a little and not actually locking the door to make up the striker switch and allow remote start. In my case it may be that hitting lock twice ensures that all doors are actually locked. Anyone else have OEM remote start hopefully can post up if 2 lock presses are required? It does work on mine every time w/2 lock presses

I'll give the lock-lock-start sequence a try.

Yes, Chris did enable my module. I've been curious to hear from others if lock-start works, or is it lock-lock-start. I haven't had the recalls done on it yet, so maybe I'll get them to update it without charging me.

I had a chance this weekend to try my remote start. On Saturday I tried the lock/lock/start. It started, remotely. Then today, Sunday, Locked the car remotely, let it sit for ten minutes, then lock/start and it started. I could also shut the car off with one push of the start button. BTW, I talked to a couple of other GM owners this weekend. A few reported that they had to lock/start their cars remotely also. Something about GM wants to make sure that the car is locked if not occupied... Any other observations?

I'm familiar with the lock/start sequence. All GM car's I've experienced required it. I haven't driven my PPV since my post, so I haven't been able to try the lock/lock/start method.

Just tested 3 for 3, the lock/lock/start combination seems to work. It's not a bother but should I still ask for an update, Chris?

Thats apparently the scheme in these units I just checked the OS and it is indeed two locks and a start. Very strange! But hey if its working 100% I say leave it lol
