i SO need one of these....did anyone have one installed when they bought their PPV?

They're apparently quite rare, as the radio it's paired with wasn't very popular (because it was stupid-expensive).

I reckon if they don't exist in the wild, i could rig a PTT to the wheel in some fashion.....

If they were an option (not sure if they were really), call KERR industries up, they were the ones upfitting these cars. Also, it would have to be wired through the steering wheel electronics. Its more than just a button.

Cool, I'll try Kerr.

This was part of the GM - Motorola partnership that they showed off at the APCO show in 2011. They integrated the APX 7500 radio system into the car's electrics. it was pretty slick, actually. It had in-car video, a mobile workstation/control head. It was roughly a $12k option package, if i remember correctly.

I think that was just a demo vehicle so I would imagine it was one off creation. Nothing mass produced.

Why do you "Need" it?

There were a couple SoCal departments with more money than good sense that installed it...

My car is still outfitted with radios, albeit for Search and Rescue now instead of police work.
When i was a policeman, i often wondered why this wasn't done. it's almost guaranteed to reduce accidents due to "multi-handing" the communications gear.
I've got it in my race car, why not in the cruiser?
