Odd connector pic of the day

Post by CrashTestDummy »

I posted a picture of this connector over in the build section, but it may not be getting the eyes on it. I discovered it when I was installing the lock pillar trim in our '12. Here it is:

Image

It's a two-connector plug that seems to be wired to the right side rear seat buckle. It has a blue and a yellow wire. I think the seat belts may be off a different year car, so these may not be original to the 2012 model car. I could find no reference to it in the FSM, but I didn't look at each and every page in the 3-volume set. I see no connecting harness anywhere near this connector, so am not sure what it's for. There's certainly no seat sensor to trigger a 'buckle seat belts' sign on the dash, so what is it for?

Just curious more than anything else.

Perhaps a frankensteined piece that took components from a cannibalized front belt (not sure how long the wire is from the connector as pictured)? I have never seen a connector on a rear belt in any car I've torn into. I'm interested to see what it might be.

From a 14+ the got sensors on the rear belts. not sure what for since there does not seem to be a warning about rear passengers belting up and there are no seat sensors. Maybe something to do with the AIrbags?

Yeah, air bags, or some silly Aussie thing was what I was thinking.

Inquiring minds, you know.
