BY FAR... the biggest pain in the ass radio pull I've ever dealt with! I'm amazed I didn't break more clips. Going as cautiously as I could I kept the broken clips to only 3 and I scratched one of the appliques. So I'll want the part number for the pass-side applique as it has one of the clips and a scratch. I did discover a couple tricks that I'll post pics on tomorrow.

I'll post this question here since its part of the same job. I see the the BCM above the HVAC duct and took the two screws out to remove the duct, but it doesn't come down. What's the magic to get it out, or is just allowing it wiggle gives enough room to get the BCM down from it's perch?

UPDATE: found 2 part numbers for the applique trim pieces. 92253515 and 92267265. In both cases it seems they give you the left and right pair at about $8 difference in price. UPDATE2UPDATE I saw this note on another website "APPLIQUE,I/P TR PLT(USED ON VINS FROM 03/JUL/2012)(FOR 1ST DESIGN SEE 92253510) - RH. APPLIQUE,I/P TR PLT - RH." which 92253510 doesn't even come up on gmpartsdirect.

FYI, there is a good thread started by Crazy Paul on one of the G8 forums that shows part numbers and pictures of all the trim parts needed to install a PPV radio into a G8 including the appliques.

Thanks for the great link. I didn't know that the G8 dash and 11-13 dash were that compatible.

And at $72 for a new one, I think I'll live with the scratch (to remind me of the struggle) :D

I found ways to push some of the clips from the backside that made life a less bit stressful. Here are some pics I shot last night with notes for new people. I'll say from the onset I found these clips far more stubborn that previous dash clips I've encountered. Just trying to get the appliques off almost had me willing to live without the radio updates. As mentioned, I broke the pass-side clip near the hazard button and put a small scratch in the silver paint. When I got to this stubborn clip on driver-side I used a small flat-blade screwdriver to release the top side of the clip, which helped bring that side off without issue.

For the center plate, around the 9c3 shifter, I pushed the rear tabs up from underneath.

I pulled the center clips by pulling up from the top of the trim as there was no access to those clips. Then I worked on the front clips.

The side clips for the center trim piece we accessible from behind so I was able to push one side out (2 clips) and then tackle the center clip. I think I'm going to remove this clip when I re-install!

It was mentioned that the space between the speaker plate and the windshield make it difficult to pop those front clips, so this is what I did.

I just realized that my description of the clip location is wrong in the pic. The "back" clips are the ones near the windshield. ;)

Dave,
Great tips! I like the idea of giving the clips a little help before pulling on the parts. I had the two clips disappear back into the dash. Didn't break anything just had the clips take off on me. I bought two different sets of molded plastic trim removal/pry tools. Having several shapes and different levels of stiffness in the plastic pry tools helped.

Here is a picture of the antenna clip with the tab broken off. I reached up and got underneath the pivot clip to release the tab.

Also a little tip to add to this thread. When you have all your dash apart and are pitting things back together put a pinch of some lube on all the white dash clips (radio face ones as well) so they go in easier and more importantly the next time you have to take it apart they release much easier. I used some white lithium grease rubbed between my fingers then just coated the clip. Took my dash apart this weekend and it was super easy compared to the first time. Although appliques near the hazard switch are still a PITA.
